Love Comes To Me

Chapter 978: Can't let him wake up

The next day, Edgar had someone check to see if Arlice had declared any herbs for export.

While waiting for the results, he made another trip to the hospital where Frankson was staying.

"It's getting better after the doctor's efforts." The nurse said.

This should be the only good news Edgar has heard in the last two days.

He glanced at Frankson in the hospital bed before speaking up and asking, "When will the person be awake?"

"The doctor didn't say, so if you want to know, you can ask yourself."

Edgar then went to see Frankson's primary care physician.

After he explained his purpose, the doctor fell into silence.

"What's wrong?" Edgar asked, puzzled.

The doctor weighed his words, "The patient is not simply suffering from food poisoning."

Edgar frowned, "What do you mean by that, is there a complication to food poisoning?"

"I'll say it plainly, he's poisoned."

"Poisoning?" Edgar thought he had heard wrong and asked uncertainly, "Did you mean drug poisoning?"

The doctor nodded, "Yes, he was drugged."

"Do you know what kind of medicine it is?" Edgar pursued.

"It hasn't been tested yet."

Edgar left the hospital and went straight back to the office.

All he could think of was the doctor's words, and it turned out that Frankson had been drugged to get so sick so quickly and so badly. Now everything can be connected.

From the warehouse fire to Frankson's poisoning, the other side really had no conscience at all when they did such a ruthless job. When he arrived at the office, Edgar went to Arlice's office.

"Edgar, what brings you here?" Arlice was surprised to see him.

Edgar looked at him coldly.

"What's wrong?" Arlice frowned uncertainly.

"Cousin, do you hate me?"

Arlice froze for a few seconds at Edgar's sudden question, then responded and laughed, "How could I hate you?"

"It's not annoying, so why did you do that?" Edgar questioned.

Arlice looked confused, "What did I do Edgar, what's wrong with you and why can't I even understand what you're saying?" "You ..."

The words came out and were swallowed, and Edgar snapped to attention.

What is he doing?

It was surprising that he came to raise the alarm when there was no proof that Arlice had done it.

Is it madness?

Not only will they not ask anything, they will spook the snake.

Arlice saw that he looked uncomfortable and asked with concern, "Edgar, is something wrong with you? If you need my help, just ask."

Edgar collected all his thoughts and responded indifferently, "I'm fine."

"So you were just ..." Arlice asked tentatively, hiding the shine under his eyes.

"It's nothing, I just had a dream and got a little confused for a moment."

The reason was a bit of a stretch, but now he could only explain it.

"Oh." Arlice looked as if he had come to his senses and then laughed out loud, "It seems I wasn't very nice to you in the dream."

Instead of continuing on this topic, Edgar changed the subject and said, "It's been a lot of hard work for you during this time with something so serious happening at the company." It is clear that they are family, but the words reveal politeness and rustiness.

"I deserve a little hard work." Arlice always had a smile on his face and looked quite genuine.

Edgar looked around, "There's nothing else, I'm off."

"No cup of coffee?" Arlice asked.

"It's not necessary."

With those words, Edgar turned and strutted away.

Arlice watched as the office door opened and closed, the smile on his face fading and his eyes clouding over.

It seems Edgar suspects him after all.

He couldn't afford to lose the business deal that he had so easily negotiated with SA Group.

So, he made a phone call.

As soon as he got through, he asked, "How's Frankson's situation?"

"After the doctors' resuscitation, the situation has improved and there is a good chance that she will come to her senses." Hearing this news, Arlice's face instantly turned gloomy and he said in a stern voice, "We absolutely cannot let him wake up!" Once Frankson wakes up, it's all over.

"You know what to do, right?" Arlice asked.

The person on the other side of the phone was silent for a few seconds before saying back, "I understand."

...

To make the investigation easier, Edgar's assistant Ivor called in all the employees in the storage department for questioning.

He scanned the circle of employees standing in two rows and walked from left to right, back and forth twice, before speaking up and asking, "Do you have anything to say?" There was a silence.

He smiled, "You should know that this warehouse fire has been a serious loss, and I expect you to be truthful about what you know."

Here he paused, "or each of you is responsible."

Everyone looked at me, everyone looked at you, and there was unease on everyone's face.

"What, still nothing to say?" Ivor Godbold asked.

There is still silence.

Ivor nodded, "Fine, then the fire will be the responsibility of all of you together."

At these words, everyone panicked.

As he said, the losses were severe and not at all their responsibility.

At this point, the head of the storage department stepped forward, "Assistant Song, I have something to say."

Ivor raised an eyebrow, "You just say so."

"The thing is, Mr Arlice had come to the warehouse during the day the day before the fire."

"Mr Arlice? What's he going to do?"

"He wanted some herbs, but I turned them down because I didn't have the president's approval."

"And then what?"

"He kept convincing me to open the warehouse, but I didn't. Then Frankson called me over to sign the order, and then he and Frankson chatted for a while and left."

"Which means that Mr Arlice and Frankson had contact." Ivor thought thoughtfully for a moment, then said, "Why didn't you say so before?"

The supervisor bowed his head, "I'm afraid."

Ivor understood what he meant, he was afraid that if he said it, Mr Arlice would come after him.

"Are there any others?"

"No more."

Ivor looked to the others and asked, "Do any of you have anything else to say?"

Everyone shook their heads.

"All right then, you all go back to work."

When everyone had gone, Ivor went to the president's office and told Edgar the results of his investigation.

"You mean my cousin went to the warehouse?" Edgar asked.

"That's what the head of the storage department said."

Edgar narrowed his eyes, thought hard for a moment and pressed on, "When you took stock of the scene, were there any western aconite or strychnine that hadn't been burned?" Ivor thought back carefully and shook his head, "No, it was all a few other herbs."

"Nope." Edgar shook his head, "I remember that both the western aconite and strychnine were at the far end of the warehouse and the fire started from the outside."

Speaking of this, he said to Ivor, "You go and collect the ashes that burned at the scene and do a lab test."

"Good." Ivor led the way and hurried away.
