Chapter 918
"Is this Sherilyn?" "Yes, it is."
"We're calling from the local precinct. There's been a disturbance reported, and it seems you're involved. We'd like to ask you a few questions. Would you be able to come by?" A disturbance?
Sherilyn's mind raced back to yesterday on set, that commotion caused by Caroline's die-hard fan.
"Got it. I understand."
Call ended.
Sherilyn frowned, thought for a beat, and then dialed a number.
"Sherilyn," Gilbert answered promptly on the other end. "Isn't today your day off? Did you just wake up?"
"I need to ask you."
Sherilyn wasn't in the mood for small talk. "The fan from yesterday, did you have her taken to the station?"
"The police contacted you about the fan situation?"
Gilbert guessed. "Don't worry about it; I'll handle everything. She doused you with water and spouted nonsense, clearly bothering you. It was only right to let the police deal with her." "Or was she bothering you?"
Sherilyn chuckled sarcastically. "I mentioned Caroline's lingering presence, and that upset you! Taking it out on her fan, are we?" "Why would you think that?"
Gilbert's tone deepened. "Why must you insist on misinterpreting my intentions?"
He suddenly said, "Is it that you don't trust my motives are for you, or... you're just unwilling to accept that, indeed, I did it for you?"
Sherilyn was at a loss for words.
"Sherilyn."
Gilbert softened his voice, sounding both gentle and resigned.
"Can you let go of your reservations for once? Trust me this time? I'm doing this for you, not because of anyone else."
"..." Sherilyn's lips parted, but no sound came out.
Agitated, she ended the call.
A few days later.
The new series kicked off.
At the launch ceremony, Sherilyn unexpectedly ran into Karol.
Karol had been absent from the previous script readings.
"Sherilyn!" Karol rushed over, brimming with excitement, and hooked her arm.
"We get to work together again, huh?"
Seeing Sherilyn's puzzled look, Karol volunteered an explanation.
"The previous actress for the second lead suddenly backed out. I was notified last minute and rushed over today."
"I see..."
Sherilyn noted the absence of the original second lead.
"Guess what?" Karol was visibly thrilled. "This is the most significant role I've landed so far!"
Then, with a hint of envy, she
glanced at Sherilyn, "Of course, I'm
still nowhere close to you. They're
calling for us; let's head over
"Sure, let's go."
Throughout the ceremony, Karol stayed close to Sherilyn.
Given she was the second lead next to the lead actress, it seemed reasonable. "Sherilyn."
As the ceremony wrapped up, tugged at Sherilyn, handing her,
remony wrapped up, Karol
phone. "Could you hold this el
me? I
to use the restroom."
"Sure."
Sherilyn nodded, taking the phone.
Her fingers accidentally brushed the screen, lighting it up.
Sherilyn paused... the screen saver was a photo of Gilbert!
Not a public photo, but a candid one, seemingly taken without notice, its quality not the clearest.
Sherilyn smirked. Karol's feelings for Gilbert...
As the screen dimmed, it suddenly lit up again with a new message.
Gilbert: Alright, understood.[]
In that brief moment before the
screen went dark again, Sherilyn was left stunned, her feelings a mix
of surprise and curiosity. Were Gilbert and Karol... always in touch?
