THE DEVIL HERSELF

Chapter 22

#HUNTER'S CLAN 000

Bruce's heart pounded as he listened to the news on the phone. Mia had been killed. His hand trembled as he ended the call, cold sweat forming on his brow. The Hunter's Clan wasn't supposed to be vulnerable like this. He had to act quickly. He hurried to the underground meeting room, where he knew Lord Ace would be waiting. The room was dark, the only light coming from the large screen that dominated one wall. Bruce took a deep breath and pressed the intercom button. "Lord Ace, it's Bruce. We need to talk."

A few seconds later, the speakers crackled to life, and the voice of Lord Ace filled the room. "Bruce, what is it?"

"It's Mia, sir. She's been killed."

There was a moment of silence. "I see. This is troubling news indeed. What do you need?"

"More security, sir. If Mia can be taken down, none of us are safe. We need to tighten our defenses."

Lord Ace's voice was calm but firm. "Granted. But I also need you to investigate this matter. Mia's death, and Brazil's, are not ordinary incidents. There's more at play here."

Bruce nodded, even though Lord Ace couldn't see him. "I understand. I'll start immediately."

"Good. Keep me informed."

As the speakers clicked off, Bruce left the room, pulling out his phone. He sent a coded message to the two other guards, Jackson and Leo: **"Be extremely careful. Unknown threat. Don't let your guard down."** He had a feeling that Mia and Brazil were only the beginning.

GLORIA'S RESIDENT ☐☐☐

Gloria was preparing dinner in her cozy kitchen. The sun was setting, casting a warm golden glow through the windows. She hummed softly to herself as she chopped vegetables, but a nagging feeling tugged at her. She hadn't heard from her daughter, Scarlet, in a while. She decided to call her.

Wiping her hands on a towel, she picked up her phone and dialed Scarlet's number. After a few rings, Scarlet answered.

"Hello?"

"Ariana, it's Mom," Gloria said, using Scarlet's birth name. "How are you, darling?"

There was a brief pause. "I'm fine, Mom. Busy, as usual."

Gloria could hear the coldness in her daughter's voice, but she pressed on. "I just wanted to check in. It's been too long since we talked."

"I know, Mom. I've been swamped with work."

Gloria smiled gently, even though Scarlet couldn't see her. "I understand. I just worry about you, that's all. I saw the news about Mia. I know you my dear, I just the way you are putting all of them to a place of a no return." Scarlet's tone softened slightly. "Yeah, it's been good. But I'm managing it get to the others."

"I'm proud of you, Ariana," Gloria said warmly. "You've always been so strong, and you've achieved so much. I know Mia's death is a huge stepping stone for you and you will still do more my darling"

"Thanks, Mom," Scarlet replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "That means a lot."

Gloria sensed the underlying emotion in her daughter's words. "Remember, I'm always here for you. No matter what."

"I know. I've got to go now, Mom. I'll call you soon."

"Alright, take care, Ariana. I love you."

"Love you too, Mom."

As the call ended, Gloria felt a mix of sadness and pride. She knew Scarlet was dealing with more than she let on, but she also knew her daughter was resilient. She smiled to herself as she returned to her cooking. Scarlet might not have children of her own, but Gloria was confident that her daughter would continue to make her proud in everything she did.

Gloria finished her dinner preparations and sat down at the table. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. She had always trusted her instincts, and they were telling her that Ariana was in danger.

She said a silent prayer for her daughter's safety and took a deep breath. She had faith in Ariana's strength and resilience. Whatever challenges lay ahead, Gloria knew her daughter would face them head-on.

As she ate her dinner, she thought about the future. She might not have grandchildren, but she was proud of the woman Ariana had become. And she knew that, in the end, her daughter would make her proud in ways she couldn't even imagine.

# ITALY 000 HIDEOUT ☐☐☐

Bruce was on high alert. He met with Jackson and Leo in a secluded alley, ensuring they weren't followed.

"Listen up," Bruce said, his voice low. "Mia and Brazil's deaths are just the beginning. We need to stay vigilant. Trust no one outside this circle."

Jackson, a tall man with a military demeanor, nodded. "Understood. What's our next move?"

"We investigate. Lord Ace wants answers, and so do I," Bruce replied. "We need to find out who's behind this and why. Start by checking Mia's contacts. Someone must have seen or heard something."

Leo, a tech-savvy guard with a knack for gathering information, pulled out a tablet. "I'll start hacking into her accounts. Maybe we can find a lead there."

"Good," Bruce said. "And remember, don't take any unnecessary risks. We can't afford to lose anyone from our Clan to this mysterious person or people doing this."

As they parted ways, Bruce felt a weight on his shoulders. The Hunter's Clan was under attack, and it was up to him to uncover the truth. He walked down the dark streets, his senses heightened, ready for whatever came next.

#00 SCARLET SCORPION EVO X

Scarlet sat at her desk, staring at the file in front of her. Mia's death had made her more stronger than before and finding her brother after so many years only brought more strength to her side. She will surely taken everyone down including Lord Smith..

She has decided to but emotions aside until her revenge is completely done because at this point she can't do anything or concentrate on any relationship because of this. Elias has been greatly helpful but Rachel and the triplets needs to come back to Italy from Africa so that the real show will began soon.

Her phone buzzed, a message from an unknown number: **"Be careful. You're next."**

Scarlet's eyes narrowed. She wasn't easily intimidated, but the threat was real. She had to stay one step ahead of whoever was targeting her.

She decided to reach out to Diego. She trusted him more than anyone else in the Clan. She dialed his number and waited for him to answer.

"Diego, it's Scarlet," she said when he picked up because she was calling with a strange number. "I need your help."

"What's going on?" he asked, his voice tense.

"I got a message. Someone's targeting me. I think it's connected to Mia and Brazil. And can lead us to the rest of that bastard's"

"Meet me at the private training center" he said without hesitation. "We'll figure this out together."

Scarlet hung up and grabbed her jacket. She wasn't going to sit around and wait for the next attack. As she left her apartment, her thoughts drifted to her mother. Gloria's call had been a brief moment of comfort in the chaos. She hoped her mother wouldn't have to worry about her too much longer.

At the rendezvous point, a dime light was lit indicating that someone is already inside, Diego was training intensively while waiting for her. He looked up as Scarlet approached, his expression grave.

"Let me see the message," he said.

Scarlet handed him her phone, and he read the text, his jaw tightening. "This is serious. Whoever sent this knows our moves."

"Do you think it's an inside job?" Scarlet asked.

"Could be," hereplied. "But I'm not ruling anything out yet. We need to dig deeper."

"Agreed," Scarlet said. "I'll start by going through Mia's files. Maybe she was onto something or someone knows about her or me being her bodyguard before she died."

Diego nodded. "And I'll keep an eye on our security measures. We can't let our guard down."

As they parted ways, Scarlet felt a renewed sense of determination. She wasn't going to let fear control her. She was going to find out who was behind the message and make them pay. Maybe...... Just maybe... He could be Bruce Springsteen. "Killing him will be the most sweetest thing I will ever do in this life time" she muttered venomously, recalling how her brother told her that he was treated like a dog.
