Chapter 714
He was now a big shot at Sartori Corporation, and Ms. Claire knew he'd have to head back eventually.
Chloe chimed in, "Honestly, I haven't really made up my mind yet." Ever since she left the TV station, she found herself in this weird in-between phase, unsure of her next move. Even though she kept saying she hadn't decided, deep down, she knew she had. She just needed that little nudge to get her going. And wouldn't you know it, that push came sooner than she thought. No sooner had her plane landed than Chloe got a call from Leah.
Leah's voice was gentle, almost hesitant, "Chloe, I saw on the news you're back. Could you swing by home tonight?" Chloe had a pretty good idea what this was about, and her heart sank a bit.
"Mom, if this is about Lisa, there's nothing I can do. She killed two people, and I can't just ignore the law. I don't have that power." Chloe's timing couldn't have been more spot-on-Lisa's trial was scheduled for the next day.
Leah was at a loss for words, and after a moment of silence, she hung up. Chloe felt like there was a heavy weight in her chest. Connor, noticing her mood, whipped up her favorite dish that evening-sweet and sour pork ribs. As she savored each bite, Chloe felt her spirits lift, if only a little.
But that relief didn't last long. Not long after, security came over, "Ma'am, there are three people outside claiming to be your parents."
Chloe got up and headed to the balcony, spotting a familiar car. Security at Greenpeace Estate was super tight, and their car was stopped at the entrance. Chloe went back inside, her face a mask of calm, "Let them in."
The car was quickly let through. Jacob and Leah soon appeared, but Chloe was caught off guard to see Ann with them. Ann didn't say a word before dropping to her knees. Chloe rushed over, trying to help her up, "What are you doing?"
Ann stayed kneeling, her head bowed to the floor, "Chloe, I know I shouldn't be here. I know Lisa did something unforgivable, but I'm begging you, please spare her life. Even if she spends forever in prison, just don't let her be executed."
Ann couldn't bring herself to look up, "She's guilty, she should die, but she's my daughter. I've raised her for twenty years. If there's any hope, can't just stand by and watch her die. Call me foolish or stupid, but please, don't let her die, okay?"

Before Chloe could say anything, Leah also knelt down, tears streaming down her face. She looked worn out, "Chloe, I've never asked you for anything, but Lisa is your father's and my own flesh and blood. I know she deserves the worst for what she's done to you and others, but please, have mercy on me. She's my child, and no
matter her faults, I can't bear to see her die."
Looking at the two kneeling before her, Chloe felt her eyes fill with tears. In that moment, it was like her heart was being stabbed over and over. She could understand where Leah and Ann were coming from. They hated Lisa's actions, were horrified by her cruelty, but they couldn't completely let go. Because that's what mothers do. Yet, seeing them like this, her heart ached terribly.
