Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again

Chapter 0025

Chapter 00225 Chapter 0025

Caroline's POV:

This whole ordeal felt like it was straight out of a TV drama. William had an affair in our marriage, and now he had everything he could ever want: a beautiful girlfriend who wasn't going to die in a matter of months, a rich and successful life, and a beautiful baby boy. So, why did he insist on invading my life?

William's actions were becoming more and more puzzling with each interaction we had. There were times where I felt like he might care about me, but it would then be followed up with scathing insults and cruel observations. The more we met up, the less I understood him.

"I don't need to get a checkup," I told him coldly, but he ignored me and proceeded to brush off any other protests I had. He was deathly quiet as he stared ahead and took me to his villa, where I expected to stay there and behave.

William mercifully left me alone during my first day there, but I hesitated to express my gratitude. Laden had yet to come, though William coldly reminded me multiple times that he and the doctor would inevitably arrive.

My nerves were overloaded at the prospect of my secret being revealed. If William was already involving himself in my life so much now, how much worse would he get once he discovered my illness? All I wanted was to get away from him, and yet he always seemed to be just around the corner, ready to rip my peace to shreds once again.

During this stress-inducing waiting period, the only comfort I could glean was from thinking of my father. William had so callously blamed my father for the problems at our feet. His words rang in my ears as I remembered how he regarded my father with such vitriol. What had happened between them that made William so hateful?

My thoughts then drifted towards William's private study, which was often locked. Even during our marriage he'd barred me from entering so he could "focus on work", the excuse he always gave.

Was the door actually locked to keep him focused, or to keep me out? Were there things in there that he didn't want me to find out? Could study contain some clues about what happened between William and my dad? Questions swirled in my head, all demanding answers that could only be found in the study.

Usually I found intruding on someone's privacy to be rude and disgraceful, but this was my only chance to find out why William hated my father and, by extension, why he hated me. Finding out the source of his hatred could be the closure I needed to ease my pain before

died.

I faked a few yawns and pretended to go to bed early, thus setting my plan in motion. The

door was kept open just a crack; enough to peer at the door to his study. About an hour in, I heard his door swiftly opening, and I rushed to the crack to watch him rush out in a hurry outside.

In a stroke of good fortune, I found that he hadn't closed the door of his study, allowing me the perfect opportunity to stealthily slip in while he was out.

Nervousness plagued my system as I allowed myself inside the study. The lavish room was lined with shelves of books while many work-related papers were strewn about his desk. Atop his desk was an expensive-looking laptop, but it remained password protected. What could the password be? I carefully entered Sophia and George's names, but neither was the answer. I then tried their birthdays, and in return I got a warning from the laptop threatening to lock up. William would surely bring Hell down on me if he found out I was snooping by coming back to locked computer.

let in. Why was it our anniversary date? William could return at any minute, so I dared not to waste time on pondering why.

on a whim, I tried William and I's anniversary date, and in a shocking twist, I was

I frantically searched for files on my father, and soon enough I came up with a video. The file was CCTV footage taken just outside of what looked to be a coffee shop, and before me was a startling sight: it was Sophia kneeling down in front of my father. The video had no sound, but it didn't look good at all.

Desperate for context, I backed away from the video and checked the folder it was stored in for any more clues. Innumerable documents were spread out before me on the screen, all of them detailing my father's supposed financial crimes in shocking detail. What left me in stunned silence was that they had all been saved two years ago, far before my father was even arrested.

I struggled to believe my eyes. William had known of what my father was facing from the very beginning and wanted to set him up? Was our entire marriage some sort of awful conspiracy?

Before I could fully process the flood of information, the door slammed open, shaking the walls with its force. A tremble ran down my spine as a voice roared, "Who let you in here?"
