Chapter 2552
Eventually, the team returned to the National Security Bureau, while Nathan remained at the hospital.
The doctor conducted a basic examination on Lucinda and quickly had the results.
“Mr.
Payne, the examination shows Mrs.
Payne is overall in good health.
She was just frightened and perhaps a bit underfed.
She’s suffering from malnutrition.
I’ll administer some IV fluids and prescribe medication to help soothe her,” the doctor explained.
“Okay.
Thank you.”
Once the doctor left, Nathan sat beside the bed.
A mix of emotions was going through him.
Then, the woman in the bed, who just woke up, tugged at his sleeve and said in a raspy tone, “Honey, I’m so lucky to have you.”
Snapping out of his thoughts, Nathan gently patted her hand, signaling her to stay calm.
He then tenderly tucked her hair behind her ear.
“I’m just glad you’re okay.”
She gazed up at Nathan with her eyes brimming with Love.
Nathan, however, averted his gaze and asked softly, “What happened five days ago? Why did your car suddenly tumble down the hillside near Bay Tunnel?”
Lucinda lowered her gaze.
She pondered for a moment and then touched her forehead with a frown.
“I can’t remember much.
I just recall fainting after the car went over the hillside into the valley.
The next thing I knew, I was bound.”
Her eyes widened with fear as if she recalled something.
She gripped Nathan’s sleeve tightly and muttered, “Honey, it was Cory-the same one who hurt Colby before.”
So she was aware of the past incident with the tainted milk powder.
Nathan’s initial doubts began to waver.
“I know, Lucinda.
Don’t worry.
I’m here now, and I won’t let you out of my sight again.
He won’t have the chance to harm us anymore.”
With a relieved smile, Lucinda nodded.
“As long as you’re with me, I’m not scared of anything.”
She seemed to be more fond of saying sweet words unlike before.
But there was nothing wrong with her face.
Lucinda had no twin sister.
How could another woman who looked just like her possibly exist?
Nathan wrestled with his emotions as the woman on the bed leaned closer with pleading eyes.
“Honey, can you hug me?”
Pushing aside his doubts, Nathan moved closer and gently placed her head on his shoulder.
“Honey, I’m covered in dirt.
Will you dislike me?”
“Of course not,” Nathan responded calmly.
Pleased, Lucinda’s voice took on a hoarse, suggestive tone.
“Then… Can we shower together tonight?”
Her hand wandered restlessly over Nathan’s shirt, tracing his abdominal muscles.
It was a clear invitation.
