Chapter 2551
If Lucinda were to remove the ring, it would require cutting the jade into pieces.
This was something she was unwilling to do, so she continued to wear it.
Regaining his composure, Nathan stopped himself from leaning closer to the woman’s neck.
The woman he held not only didn’t wear a ring, but her fingers were slender and smooth, showing no signs of ever wearing one.
With a frown, Nathan gently set the woman back onto the grass and examined her more closely.
Her features were delicate, and her skin showed her frailty.
It was undeniably Lucinda’s face.
It was Lucinda.
But the ring finger said otherwise.
Even if Cory had removed Lucinda’s ring, there should have been an imprint on her skin.
Nathan studied the woman’s slender, elegant fingers.
They were fine and bony, devoid of the plumpness they once had.
It had been only five days.
Could she really have lost so much weight from starvation?
Nathan had doubts, and for reasons he couldn’t put in words, he felt a reluctance to draw closer to the woman before him.
A strange desire to distance himself from her crept over him.
“Sir, what’s wrong?”
Lonnie noticed Nathan’s troubled expression.
“Nothing.”
Nathan looked down and pulled his hand back with a calm demeanor.
“Come here and take my wife to the armored car.
Go back to the city and get her to the hospital.”
“Okay,” Lonnie said obediently.
But his next reaction was one of disbelief.
“What? Me?”
Would Nathan punish him if he were to carry Lucinda himself?
“Yes,”
Nathan wore a solemn expression and offered no further explanation.
He rose and descended the mountain, leading his men to complete their final search in Hilldale.
Lonnie felt a surge of anxiety.
He gently lifted Lucinda from the grass and followed the path down the mountain.
