Chapter 909
Pushing him away, Sherilyn bolted out the door.
"Sherilyn!"
"Gilbert!"
Gilbert immediately went after her, but Caroline called him back.
He turned around to see Caroline's cheeks flushed and swollen. Sherilyn's slap had really packed a punch. Tears welled up in Caroline's eyes as she choked out, "It wasn't me! It really wasn't! Don't you believe me?"
"..." Gilbert took a deep breath, noncommittal, "All I can say is I hope it wasn't you."
"Gilbert!"
He turned and walked away, not looking back.
...
Bodyguards blocked her path; Sherilyn couldn't get far.
"Ms. Gomez, please wait."
"Sherilyn!"
Gilbert quickly caught up, "Don't be upset! There are still details we need to figure out... Saul and Caroline have conflicting stories, and we can't be sure Saul isn't lying, right?" "Really?"
Sherilyn looked at him, a hint of a smile on her lips, "Then tell me, why would Saul frame her?"
"That's something we need to investigate..."
"No need."
Sherilyn took a shallow breath, shaking her head, her gaze drifting away.
"It doesn't matter. I can't do anything to her anyway. Let's just drop it, there's nothing to investigate."
"Sherilyn..." Gilbert felt a tightness in his chest.
He could see the disappointment in her eyes.
But, "I really wasn't trying to protect her..."
"It's late."
Sherilyn didn't want to hear any more, "I'm tired, I want to go home. Mr. Nine, can you take me home?" Surrounded by the Harrison family's bodyguards, she wouldn't get far without his consent.
She did look pale.
"Okay."
Gilbert nodded, feeling she did indeed need some rest.
...
Leaving Golden Oak Manor, they headed back to Sunset Ridge Community.
The entire ride was silent.
Sherilyn leaned against the car window, eyes closed. She could feel the man's gaze on her, unwavering.
The car stopped downstairs, and Gilbert escorted Sherilyn up to her apartment.
"Get some rest."
He knew she was upset, but before leaving, he promised, "I won't let this go, I'll get to the bottom of it and
give you an answer. Do you me?"
trust
"..." Sherilyn hesitated, then smiled lightly, nodding, "Alright."
Since he said so, she would wait.
In the end, it would be either her giving up or him.
"Until you find out what really happened, let's not meet."
Gilbert stiffened, "I'll find the truth as quickly as possible."
...
"Find out!"
Back downstairs, Gilbert instructed
Nolan, "Find out when Saul and Caroline met and any proof of financial transactions between them!"
"Yes, Mr. Nine."
...
Gilbert returned to Sunset Ridge Community two days later.
Right on time.
Sophia opened the door for him, "Mr. Johnson, you're just in time for dinner."
Pointing inside, "Sherilyn and Jenna are in the living room."
"Alright."
Gilbert headed straight in, carrying a document bag.
In the living room, Sherilyn was helping Jenna with her reading.
Because of her health, Jenna hadn't started school yet. Sherilyn took the time to teach her.
Fortunately, at only four years old, she hadn't fallen behind.
"Mr. Gilbert is here!"
Jenna was the first to spot Gilbert, her little head tilting back as she greeted him with a beaming smile. "Hi, Mr. Gilbert."
"Hi, Jenna."

Gilbert looked towards Sherilyn, who smiled faintly, "You're here."
Calm and composed, as if there had never been any disagreement between them.
Regardless of their issues, in front of Jenna, they maintained a facade of friendliness. "Yeah." Gilbert nodded, his visit today also concerning Jenna.
