Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Chapter 906

Sherilyn's heart raced as she turned her back.

"Quit your yapping in front of Mr. Nine! Don't make me believe I have to kick you to the curb, got it?" "Alright, alright, I'll talk..."

Saul winced, his vision blurring with pain.

His face paled as he nodded vigorously, "Someone put me up to this, I... I took their bribe."

"Who?"

Gilbert narrowed his eyes, his hand firmly on Sherilyn's back to keep her from turning around. His voice was cold and commanding, a calm fury in his tone.

"It was..."

Struggling to catch his breath from the pain, Saul gasped out a name, "Caroline... Bennett!" What? Gilbert was taken aback, his head snapping down to look at Sherilyn in his arms.

Sherilyn was equally shocked, her head lifting to lock eyes with him. "Her?!"

After the initial shock came realization.

Of course, it was her!

Besides her, no one had such a deep grudge against Sherilyn!

"Hmph."

Sherilyn fixed her gaze on Gilbert, a faint smile playing on her lips, loaded with meaning. "You heard that?" "Yeah." Gilbert nodded.

"So, what are you going to do about it?" Sherilyn's smile deepened, "Or should we just let it slide?"

Understanding her, Gilbert's expression remained unchanged, "No, we can't let this slide. I'll take care of it."

Really?

Sherilyn was skeptical but nodded, "And how do you plan to handle this?"

"Don't worry."

After a moment of contemplation, Gilbert spoke, "We need to confront Caroline Bennett in person, get the truth out of her, right?" Hmph.

Sherilyn scoffed, "It's pointless! She's hated me for more than a day or two."

At first, it was because she shared Sylvia Johnson's affection.

Then, there was the matter with Francis and Gilbert themselves...

In Caroline's eyes, since she had done a favor for the Johnson family, everyone in the family should revolve around her alone! "When will you go see her?"

Sherilyn checked the time, a little past ten in the evening, not too late.

"Let's do it now."

"Sherilyn." Gilbert frowned, hesitating, "Isn't it a bit late? You've just been through a shock..."

"No need! I'm fine!"

Sherilyn's tone was icy, "You're just trying to buy Caroline time because you feel sorry for her, aren't y you?"

"That's not it..."

"If that's not it, let's go. Right now!"

She couldn't wait any longer; she needed answers now!

"Sherilyn..."

Gilbert was at a loss for words.

But seeing Sherilyn so resolute, he had no choice but to agree.

"Alright, we'll go now."

He glanced at Nolan, who understood immediately and went to prepare the car.

Without delay, they headed to Golden Oak Manor.

...

"Who is it?"

The doorbell rang, and the caregiver went to open the door.

Caroline hadn't gone to bed yet. Hearing the caregiver's voice, she called out, "Ms. Bennett, it's Mr. Nine..."

Gilbert?

Caroline's face lit up with joy as she wheeled herself out of the room.

"Gilbert, what brings you here so late..."

Her words trailed off, the smile freezing on her face.

Because Gilbert hadn't come alone; Sherilyn was with him.

"Sherilyn, you're here too?"

Caroline forced a smile, her tone

dripping with sarcasm, "What,

your date night end with a t

stroll to my doorstep?"

Sherilyn ignored her, focusing instead on Gilbert.

She was waiting for him.

She needed to see how he would handle this!

If he managed this well, she thought, maybe... just maybe, she could tell him about the injustice she faced five years ago and her experiences

She hoped he wouldn't disappoint her!
