Chapter 220
Evelina's face was swollen like a balloon, tears streaming down her cheeks as she pleaded, "Lucian, help me!"
When Lucian saw her state, his hands slowly clenched, "Eve, you were the one who said it, as long as Lemmy calms down, she can do whatever she wants. You gotta keep your word!" Evelina was instantly choked on his words. She had said that casually, not meaning it at all!
The butler stepped forward, separating them, "Ms. Langston, why are you attacking someone like that? Ms. Sterling just opened your school offer. She didn't touch your stuff. Why be so petty?" Lemira nearly stumbled as the butler pushed her. Raising an eyebrow, she retorted with a bold and sharp tone, "Yes, I am that petty."
"But Mr. Asher Langston made it clear, you're not to step foot in this mansion."
"Zack, who gave you the audacity to speak to Lemmy like that? She is Ms. Langston, your superior!"
Lucian's eyes blazed as he stared down the butler, "It seems I've been too kind over the years, letting you forget your place!"
Evelina quickly interceded, "Lucian, it's my fault. The butler was just standing up for me."
"But he lied for you and dared to lay hands on Lemira. We can't employ someone like that. Pack your things and leave."
After Lucian's declaration, both Evelina and the butler were stunned.
The butler panicked, "Mr. Lucian Langston, I've worked for the Langston family for decades. If not for merits, at least consider my hard work."
"But we've been generous to you too. Now that you've forgotten your place, I think it's time for you to go."
Lucian was chilled by the butler's attitude towards Lemira.
The butler collapsed, unable to believe he was being fired at his age, thinking he would spend his lifetime with the Langston family since he thought he was in good terms with them. "Apologize to Lemmy now. She's got a kind heart and will surely forgive you." Evelina didn't want the butler to be fired, losing an ally if that happened.
Not wanting to be fired, the butler looked at Lemira, reluctantly, "Ms. Langston, I made a mistake in my old age. Since your parents passed, considering all the years I've looked after you since you were a child, please forgive me this once
He couldn't afford to lose this respectable job, not with his family's financial struggles.
Lemira scoffed, "You didn't remind me. Evelina's and my birthdays are close, and you always suggested celebrating mine with Evelina's. Every time Evelina messed up, you'd find a way to blame me. Even the issues with my stationary were your doing.
Thanks to your 'care' over the years, I've been living in hell!"
The butler's expression turned frantic, "It's not like that, Ms. Langston."
"Just a moment ago, you called me Lemira, and now fearing for your job, I'm Ms. Langston. A true opportunist!"
After her piece, Lemira walked straight to Lucian, snatching the school offer from his hand.
Lucian swallowed hard, struggling to speak, "Lemmy, I'm sorry. I failed to see how much you've suffered."
"Save your noble act. If you had listened even once to what I said over the years, it wouldn't have come to this, would it?"
Lucian was left speechless. Indeed, Lemira was right. He was the architect of their fallout.
Lemira pulled out a document from her bag, "Sign it. I need to transfer my records."
She wanted her own personal
records, ensuring her future actions wouldn't entangle with the Langston family. That was her true freedom.
Lucian, looking at the document, spoke in agony, "Lemmy."
