Chapter 9
Phoebe's POV
"It's not really like I got fired tho, but I got a new job," I try explaining the situation but I realize I don't even know the proper details of my new job, but I do know I'll be a secretary from next week and I'll get a higher pay. "A new job? Wow, that's nice, where?" Just what I thought, how do I explain this?
I quickly cleared my throat facing him, "I don't have much details about it yet, my friend secured a spot for me in their company." I lied.
I quickly take my eyes to Lily who is leaning on the wall watching me with an expression that's not new to me, it's not easy to lie to Jake when Lily is there.
She looks at you like a detective and you don't even know when you spill the truth but not today, I don't want my brother to have a wrong impression about his sister.
I and Lily certainly have a lot to talk about after this, "Alright, good luck on your new job," Jake congratulates me.
I force a smile, "Thank you" I say, I pick up my plates and head to the kitchen, right from when I get up from the chair I can feel Lily watching me closely, even when I make eye contact with her she doesn't break it. While watching her I see her clenching her jaw and rolling her tongue inside her mouth. That attitude is enough to scare me but I know Lily more than anyone in the world.
She swivels her head looking at me until I enter the kitchen, just seems like she's waiting for the perfect time to beat me up.
Immediately she sees I'm in the kitchen, she comes into the kitchen and closes the door behind her.
"Babe, what kind of death stare is that, did I kill your mum?" I quickly ask cause I don't know if she has joined a gang or something.
"I should applaud you when Jake calls me in the middle of the night that you're missing!" She points out.
"Jeese, babe" I reach out to hold her arms, "you know more than anything in the world how much I love these children and I could even kill for them, those guys from the Russian man came here last night and took me with them" "What?" She expresses her disbelief, "Seriously, I haven't paid them for two months now because my paycheck was delayed, and I haven't been getting extra jobs that much recently, I borrowed so much money and I am drowning in debt, you know about this don't you?" I ask.
Lily rests her shoulder in resignation, she now realizes that I was really in trouble.
"So how did you sort it out?" She asked, realizing those men wouldn't leave me if I didn't pay them.
"Well, that guy from that party we attended that last time I told you I hooked up with, you remember?" I ask, leaning on the kitchen counter.
She massages her temple for a second, probably trying to remember, "That guy you told me about months ago?" She asks as soon as she remembers.

Lily quickly gives me a puzzled look, "what?" I ask, seeing that my explanation didn't sit well with her.
"I thought you said you hated him? How did you guys meet? Were you talking to him secretly?" That's what anyone would ask but I didn't even think of it as well.
"I was not in touch with him, I just met him on the roadside and called out for help as the guys were taking me, and he saved me, I didn't even know he was the one till the guys were gone."
I don't miss the shocked look in Lily's eyes, "Oh my God, He paid the debts" Lily suddenly spills covering her mouth in surprise, her eyes gleaming with happiness.
My beam quickly reveals a scowl at her words, "No, he didn't pay off the debts, he just asked the guys to go, but he gave me a job, a good job that could help me clear off my debts" I state looking downward. "But he told them I'm his girlfriend," I say immediately after that.
Lily's expression hardens when I tell her the debts had not been paid off but when I said he gave me a job, and that I'm his girlfriend, her mood lightens a bit.
"Was that the Job you were telling Jake about?" She inquires.
"Yeah," I say, letting out a deep breath, and fidgeting.
"So you guys are a thing now?" Lily asks, narrowing her eyes at me with her hands folded above her chest.
"NO," I quickly objected, "it was just a facade so that those guys would leave me alone" I explained.
"Hmm, so what now?" Lily asks yet again.
"Nothing serious, just a mutual relationship, he'll be my boss in a few days, we'll just keep everything professional" I stutter, a sign I'm lying to myself and Lily but she doesn't take it seriously.
I wanted to tell her about the contract but I felt strange about it, since I was still skeptical about it so I decided to keep it to myself. When the time is right, I'll tell her.
The last thing I want is for Lily to freak out.
"I see," Lily says, massaging her jaws.
"Yeah," I admit, when I see she's satisfied with my answer, I reach for water to drink and after drinking I walk out of the kitchen leaving her inside.
I head for the room and find Emily Peacefully sleeping. I caress her hair calmly so she doesn't wake up.
"Don't worry I'll take care of it" I hear a voice suddenly say.
