The Rise of a Master: It Starts With Rejection

Chapter Billionaire With Husband 165

Chapter 165

When Felix parked his car, Wendy and Vincent were already waiting for him.

"What's going on here?"

Felix got out of the car with a puzzled expression. Since nothing seemed wrong, why were all the guards stationed outside? And why did they have their phones turned off?

Wendy looked embarrassed. Felix rarely contacted her, yet today of all days, he did, and it just happened to be the day they were auctioning off the Miracle Card. She felt awkward about bringing it up. "Felix, there's... a bit of a misunderstanding here. Let's get inside, and I will explain?"

"Sure."

A few minutes later, Felix had a strange expression on his face. "That's it?"

Wendy nodded. "Yes. My father and grandfather were even worried that you might be upset."

Felix chuckled and leaned back on the couch. "The Miracle Card has already been handed over to you. How you deal with it is up to you. Why would I be upset?"

Hearing this, the members of the Kinsley family all breathed a sigh of relief. It truly would have been a shame if they had a fallout with Felix because of this misunderstanding.

"Felix, did you come to see me for something?" Wendy asked.

"Yeah. Jake's company's president wanted to invite you to dinner tomorrow night. Since he couldn't reach you, and I couldn't either, I thought something might have happened to you, so I came over personally."

Wendy's heart raced. Was Felix worried about her safety? It felt a bit too good to be true, but she was genuinely happy.

"Sure. I can make it. I'll give him a call in a bit."

Felix nodded, ready to leave, but then, a thought struck him. "Give me an invitation to the auction. I want to see who ends up with the Miracle Card."

He didn't care who won it. He just wanted to see for himself, so he could tell how far away the Miracle Card might end up being when it was eventually used. After all, Gerald had clearly washed his hands of it. When the time came, Felix was sure he would be the one receiving the call.

"Okay, Felix," Wendy agreed.

Chapter 165

When Felix returned to his villa at Tabiner Bay, Xena was already waiting at the gate. For a moment, he nearly thought of calling Kane to hurry up and bring the chiefs over. Luckily, it seemed Xena wasn't here for that.

"I've come to talk to you about something else. There are still two days left to prove your identity. I won't rush you."

Something else? Felix was a little perplexed, so he opened the gate.

"Come inside and talk."

It seemed Xena had come alone, knowing that Belle's presence would not help and might even be counterproductive.

Once inside, Felix sat down in the living room and smiled. "What's the matter? Finding it hard to talk? It's not like there's anything between us that involves love or anything that's difficult to say, right?"

It was the first time Felix had ever seen Xena look even slightly flustered, which was surprising for someone as prideful as her.

Sensing the mockery in his tone, Xena frowned and asked, "You just came back from the Kinsley family, didn't you?"

Felix didn't deny it. "Yes. I figured my movements wouldn't escape your notice."

Since the Kinsley family had announced the auction of the Miracle Card so publicly, and Felix's strong hunch that there were people lurking in the shadows to observe the event, there was no way Xena wouldn't have been aware of it. "In that case, I need you to do me a favor."

Leaning forward slightly, Felix's face took on an amused expression. "When you ask for a favor, you should at least act like it, right?"

Although Xena had expected it wouldn't be easy, the way her emotions were already being affected by just a few words was something she hadn't anticipated.

Taking a deep breath and thinking of Curtis, Xena managed to push her emotions aside.
