Chapter 23
The phone on his desk rang and Zion reached over to answer it. A cool, crisp unfamiliar feminine voice came over the line. For a second he paused as it sounded like a more mature version of Anastasia and his wolf perked up for even the slightest semblance of his "Alpha Zion" he spoke into the receiver.
mate.
"Alpha Zion, this is Vivienne Reviere. Finally I can put a name behind the man."
Zion smoothed his light beard and eased back. Something about her tone made him uneasy. Vivienne Reviere is King Arthur Reviere's sister-in-law. Anyone close to King Reviere made you uneasy. She was probably calling to find out about the progress of the Lycan hunt or to talk to Anastasia. It puzzled him as to why she didn't have a phone but he just brushed it off. Maybe there was just something about the English and cell phones.
"Before I get to why I'm calling" she says in her accent. On her it was nothing. On Anastasia it was beautiful and seductive. Focus." By any chance are you and any of your brothers mated?" she questioned lightly.
Zion leaned back steadily in his chair. He was no fool. Vivienne Reviere wouldn't just ask him out of the blue about whether he or his brothers were mated. There had to be a reason and he had a strong feeling it was due to Anastasia. But why would the King's sister care who the huntress was mated to?
Something didn't feel right and he just couldn't put his finger on it. He could see that a storm was coming outside through the curtains.
"Just one."
She paused and he knew she was waiting for him to reveal which one of them that was. She wanted him to take the bait. He didn't have time for the games.
"With all due respect if you want to know Anastasia is my fated mate" Zion responded calmly. Let's just get it all out in the open.
There was a long pause on the phone, followed by a deep sigh.
"Has she rejected you yet?"
He didn't know why but somehow her words hit him. As if it was out of the question that she would have accepted him. She could only reject.
He wanted to tell her that it was the other way around.. I rejected her but she's being stubborn by not accepting it.
"No she hasn't" he replied nonchalantly.
"Well, she was always stubborn. All she needs is a nudge. Isn't that so Alpha Zion?"
He could feel all the hair's on the back of his neck stand up. There were something about her words that indirectly sounded like a threat. She just managed to put just enough charm on top of it to dull it out. Zion didn't like her already. "If you don't mind me asking why would I reject her?"
He wasn't playing the devil's advocate and she laughed dryly in the phone.
"Well why wouldn't you. You'd be taking on more than you could imagine Alpha Zion. I mean look at her I'm sure you can see it yourself. Though your reputation precedes you it would be a waste if she didn't measure up to her true potential and I'm sure a man like you can understand what that would feel like."
Ouch. Vivienne Reviere was intimidating but Zion wasn't fazed.
"How may I help you Ms. Reviere?" he responded with a slight edge in his voice.
"I would like to speak to Anastasia. This hunt seems to be going on too long. I think it's time she returns to the palace." she says with disapproval heavy in her voice.
Zion knew she wasn't talking about the missing Lycan. She was talking about him. It was time she returned and left him. He couldn't argue with her there. It was time for her to leave.
He placed the phone down and headed to his bedroom. The border patrol with Samuel was over so she should be in his room.
His wolf perked up expectantly and he knocked on the door. He knocked twice again and started to notice how ridiculous it was to be knocking on his own goddamn door. It wasn't breakfast time yet so she should still be here unless she went for a walk or something.
He pushed the room door and music was loudly playing. She was standing on his side desk tipping on her toes changing his curtains? What was wrong with his curtains?
They matched the brown carpet, brown furniture, brown armchair and brown sheets. He thought he had impeccable taste but he had to admit the light gold curtains she was putting up did make the room look better and brighter. The music changed and she started to sing and dance standing back to look at them.
"Last night I dreamt of San Pedro! Just like I'd never gone"
Zion couldn't help but find himself laughing. She looked so carefree with the light hitting her from the windows. She was glowing. She was also wearing his t-shirt and it made him feel good seeing her in it with her long legs on display. She could actually dance. It was mesmerizing. He wished he could watch her like this every day. He also wanted to be buried inside her. "This is where I long to be. La Isla bonita"
Kiarra turned and she didn't expect to see Zion watching her. Her surprise turned to panic when her foot slipped off the edge and she fell scraping her knee on the side.
He was over her in an instant and she scrambled to get up. He was staring at her angrily.
"Have you lost your mind?!" Zion growled.
"I'm fine. I promise I'm fine" Kiarra breathed out and stretched out her leg to see a tiny cut with a slight bruise forming. It would be gone in seconds.
Her words didn't seem to lessen his anger and he reached out to grab her leg to look at it. His large hands touched her skin and she slightly jumped from the contact. So this is what it feels like. There were electrical tingles from his hand spreading like rapid fire through her from just this contact alone. Zion felt her warm soft skin beneath his hands and the sparks.
Her lips were slightly parted and he moved his hand higher, kissing her skin. Kiarra drew in a harsh deep breath when she felt his lips teasingly touch her skin. He moved his hand higher and kissed her thigh softly. Lightly bringing his fingers up further edging her on he gently peppered her skin with small kisses and he could smell her arousal. She smelled like heaven and he was barely able to restrain himself. He was painfully hard, the high bulge of his crotch very evident. He didn't know how he had stayed away from her for so long. He looked up at her and her eyes were glowing from her wolf. He placed one last kiss on her inner thigh never breaking eye contact, lightly swirling his tongue over skin. She released a moan and flushed embarrassingly. Kiarra felt embarrassed to be behaving like this over a kiss. Her knuckles on the armrest had turned white as she was breathing deeply and Zion's green eyes took in her flushed appearance. He liked that she was so sensitive to his touches and ready for him.
