The Forgotten Luna (Adessa)

Chapter 76

KAEL.

Even if I was playing poker, I made sure my eyes would roam around this vast hall, so it caught me by surprise when I found myself staring at Draco as he headed for our table.

I didn't see him or his Beta before this.

And it was too late to leave.

I eased back on my seat, wanting to be able to grab Adessa if worse came to worse. But the good thing was, I was sure Draco could not bring any of his men inside this palace except for his Beta. The main entrance to this whole I just needed to be wary of his actions so that he could not alert anyone of Adessa being here.

"I didn't expect to see you here, Alpha Kael." He began as I claimed the chips that I had won just before he sat down.

"Same here," I answered curtly.

"It seems you're eager to replace your ex-wife."

I scoffed and did not say anything. I was sure I looked composed compared to how tangled my mind was. What the fuck was he playing? Did he not recognize Adessa?

Adessa and Landon confirmed Draco personally met Adessa only once, and there were no other instances they were able to meet again up close.

Could it be that he didn't recognize her at all?

If I were to compare the photos of her that they shared all over the news-with those photos being their only basis on how she looked and the Adessa sitting beside me, then there was a big possibility they would not recognize her. But he's Draco, and I would never relax if he were around Adessa.

"Let's not talk about his ex-wife when I'm here. That's very rude." Adessa spoke beside me in a tone I had never heard her use before. It was full of confidence and authority, not the meek and sweet wife I got to know this past week.

"My apologies, ma'am. I will make sure not to mention her again." Draco spoke, but he wasn't looking at her but at his cards. "Will I get a name, as it seems Alpha Kael has no intention of introducing his companion?" "Savannah. Savannah Gray."

"A pleasure to meet you, Miss Savannah."

"Same here, Alpha Draco." She replied nonchalantly. She was already angled in my direction. Her long nails trailed on my cheek down to my throat until they stopped on my neck. I assumed she was acting differently from how Draco had seen her act around me before. The "Savannah" next to me was aggressive. She wasn't saying anything but softly humming a tune. Her finger raised and found my lips, playing with them and distracting me excessively.

I felt my head was going to explode at any time. It was challenging to focus on my card when I was also watching Draco discreetly and managing my cock because the show Adessa was putting on was turning me on.

The game immediately ended with Draco winning. And the next set began. Draco wasn't showing any animosity, and neither was his Beta-whose eyes were everywhere except on Adessa.

Whatever fucking game they were playing at, I knew it wasn't good.

I folded midway after Draco raised his bet, so he had no choice but to continue the game.

"I'm done," I said as I stood up and took my remaining chips, not caring that the other players frowned because of the disruption. At this point, I didn't fucking care about any game etiquette.

I button my coat before taking Adessa's hand and guiding her from the table. We passed by the counter, and I dropped my chips, but I didn't wait for the exchange. I also dropped my sunglasses on the trash bin we passed by and slipped on my mask.

We left the casino hall and went directly to the ballroom. I hoped the Alpha King would arrive on time or earlier while Draco was still sitting at the poker table.

"It's still twenty minutes before the King will arrive," Adessa spoke softly as she slid her mask to cover her eyes.

This time, I could hear the loud

beating of her heart. She was

nervous, but she did really well there because had never heard her heart beating this loud in front of Draco.

to do.

She certainly knew what needed

BUMS

"I know, but I don't want Draco to follow us directly. Him playing and looking for us will buy us some time. And I'm sure he won't make a mess in front of the King." "I'm nervous, Kael."

"You'll be fine. Use what we practice when the right time comes and never look back. Not even for me."

She nodded her head as she fought her tears as we entered the ballroom. Adessa's hand, which I was holding, was too cold. Although I worried for her safety, I knew she was no longer the helpless woman I met when I woke up from my coma.

Adessa was slowly discovering her abilities.

These last three days, we would sneak into the middle of the forest, in the cold winter snow of the north. I let her heal wounds that I had inflicted on myself, and then we moved on to test her other capabilities. It took a while until we realized her emotions were her power.

She could generate heat in her

hands, and it could burn anyone she

touched, including me. It was my only hope that no one would be able to touch and grab her. It didn't matter anymore what would happen tome as long as she could get away if needed.

"May I have this dance, Miss Savannah?" I laid my free hand before her and stared directly into her eyes.

Despite the worry in her expression, a smile slowly curled on her lips as she placed her hand on top of mine, and I immediately swung us to the dance floor, exactly in the front, where we could easily see the King. Despite the worry surrounding my whole being, I felt blessed to see Adessa in this light.

She was terrified, but she was doing well in keeping her head up. My only wish was that I could fulfill my promise to her that I could keep her safe. That we could make it out alive here.

It wasn't even a couple of minutes of dancing when Adessa's grip on my shoulders tightened, although her expression didn't change.

"I apologize for interrupting, but I would like to dance with Miss Savannah if that is okay with you, Alpha Kael." Draco's voice came from behind me.

I felt like growling, but I restrained myself.

Adessa lowered her hands from my shoulders, but she remained standing in front of me, her eyes looking at Alpha Draco. This time, her eyes bore no expression-no fear, no animosity. Nothing.

I was about to turn around to face him when I noticed a group of people walking and were about to pass us as the people murmured around.

The Alpha King had arrived, but there was no introduction. No warning.

I forgot about Draco the moment the Alpha King was about to pass us.

It was now or never.

"Alpha King Essak," I said in a full voice, wanting to draw his attention.

The Alpha King stopped exactly in front of me, his brows furrowing, but it didn't take long before a smile tugged at his mouth. "Alpha Kael, is that you?"
