Chapter 6 - The Northern Army
Chapter 6 - The Northern Army Viola POV
While I was sitting on the bed curled up underneath a blanket still in shock over being interrupted and possibly being seen naked by the young guard Lucian walked back into the room with a letter in his hand.
"We need to leave today for the Northern Army. Small rogue militias have been attacking the northern border and they have asked for me to come back. Get dressed and then pack your things. You're coming with me." Lucian said as he walked back into the room.
"I can't go to an army camp. Women don't go to army camps. That's against everything that's, that's proper and society's rules. What will people say?" I said with my eyes wide as saucers.
"I don't give a damn what people say so I'm not leaving you here. You've tried to run away and then you've been kidnapped. You're too much of a flight risk. You're coming with me. Besides, I thought you didn't care about society's rules? Didn't you say you wanted adventure? Well here's your adventure so come and get it sweetheart." Lucian said while he was packing his clothes.
"Well, okay then. Let's go on an adventure besides I'm not scared." I stuck my chest out proudly as I started getting dressed in my traveling clothes.
"Nobody said you were scared. But, now that you're pointing it out..." Lucian said, laughing at me.
I ignored him while I started packing. He was right. I've always wanted an adventure, a way to travel, and to break society's rules. So, here's my big chance and I'm not backing down. I did flinch a little but I'm not backing down.
"It's going to be much colder there and it snows most days so pack all your winter clothes. There won't be any need for sundresses." Lucian warns me while he starts packing fur cloaks and blankets..
"How long is the trip to the camp?" I ask Lucian while packing my winter dresses, cloaks, and under clothes.
"It is a three day boat ride and then we hike through snow for a day and a half. Do you think you can make it Princess?" Lucian asks teasingly.
"I've never seen snow in person. I've seen paintings of it but I've never seen it up close so I could touch it. So, this will definitely be an exciting adventure." I answer back smiling. Lucian just laughs at me. "Are we taking any servants with us? Can I take Agenta?" I ask as I finish packing.
"No, we're taking back some warriors that I brought down with me. Agenta cannot come as no female servants are allowed. I'm making an exception by taking you but I'll assign a guard to be with you at all times and when he's not there I'll be there." Lucian says as he starts taking our bags downstairs. His warriors are already gathered on the first floor waiting for us. He sends a warrior upstairs to get the rest of the luggage.
"Lucian, don't leave quite yet! I want to take some books from the library. I'll only be a minute." I yell as I'm running down the hall towards the library. I leave the library dragging a bag overladen with books. As soon as I turn the corner to leave the library I see Lucian leaning against the wall with a comical grin on his face.
"Honey, I know how much you love to read but we can't take all of those. You need to take some out. Pick out the ones that are most important and leave the other ones." Lucian says gently.
"But, they're important!" I whine not wanting to relent.

"I'm sure they are but we can't take them all. Can you take half of what you have in the bag?" Lucian asked, trying for a compromise.
"Half!" I whine feeling completely heartbroken. But I relent and start pulling books out and eventually get my stack of books down to an ordinary size where the bag doesn't look like it's about to bust at its seams. Then, the warriors pick up our bags and we head for the port which isn't too far from the castle. Lucian helps me get on the boat as I've never sailed on a boat before and right now I'm not too sure about this. Lucian takes me to the helm of the ship and we sit down together with me sitting between his legs and my back against his chest. He wraps his large arms around me kissing me on top of my head. After a while one of the warriors brings us a bag of cheese, crackers, and nuts to eat since we didn't have breakfast. I get used to the back and forth sway of the boat and nestle against Lucian's chest and fall asleep. When night draws near Lucian wakes me up and points at the sky to see shooting stars. I've never seen a shooting star before. It was so beautiful. My adventure has just begun. The three day boat ride goes by in a flash. I spend most of it with Lucian in his arms reading a book. We eat dried meats, nuts, dried fruits, crackers, and cheese. I'm looking forward to eating a real cooked meal. As we move further north the weather definitely gets colder. Even though I'm snuggling against Lucian and feeling his warmth he still gets a fur blanket to cover me with. I love feeling like I'm being taken care of.
"Alright, time to get off the boat." Lucian gently wakes me up.
"Now we hike through the snow for a day and a half?" I ask, looking at a huge mountain.
"Yes. We need to make it over that mountain but the path has already been made for us so the way isn't so bad. It's a day's hike upwards and then half a day hike down to the camp. I promise it looks worse than it really is. But I need you to wrap yourself in a fur cloak and stay close to me while we move." Lucian explains.
Lucian was right as the hike over the mountain is less grueling than I had thought it would be. It's now the night that we have to stay on the mountain and Lucian has built us a tent with fur blankets as a floor. It still feels cold but Lucian warms me up. The next morning we quickly pack up and tredge across the mountain. As we descend I can see the camp below us. Once we get to the camp the lieutenants already have the camp lined up waiting for our arrival. They must have known we would be arriving today; maybe they saw us descending. I could feel everyone's eyes looking me up and down as I passed. Of course there were no whispers as they couldn't talk while standing at attention but I'm sure they wanted to. Lucian dismisses them as we walk by and asks one of his lieutenants to arrange a strategic meeting in an hour. Then we head off for his tent. Lucian's tent is in the middle of the camp. It's the same color as the other tents but it's four times the size. I walk in and the warriors set our bags inside and leave. For the first time I see Lucian dressed in his armour. His armour is silver and on the arms are dragon heads with their mouths open showing their teeth. I think they almost look like devil heads. But they are very intricately and beautifully designed. The breastplate has the same design.

"I have to go to a meeting. Can you unpack our bags?" I'll be back as soon as I can." Lucian says as soon as he finishes dressing.
I'm left in the tent to do the womanly thing and I guess that's my place. Hopefully, my whole time here won't be like this as I wonder what kind of mischief I can get myself into.
* Xsar Empire * Prince Ambrose POV
Lucian and my other brothers have left the capital so I've decided to visit the Xsar Empire to see Royse again. She's so beautiful with curly red hair and beautiful green eyes. I've never seen eyes as green as hers. I change into my dragon form and lift off into the air. The Xsar Empire is definitely beautiful from the sky and I can't wait to explore it. I land near the castle inside the capitol. Royse comes out to greet me and she looks more beautiful in person than in my memories. "Oh I've missed you so much Ambrose!" Royse says as she jumps into my arms.
"I've missed you too love!" I smile as I twirl her around in my arms. She quickly takes me to her room but I have the feeling that something is wrong.
"We need to talk to Ambrose!" She's almost whispering even though we're the only ones in her room.
"What is it love?" I search her eyes to see if I can tell where her worries are coming from.
"I'm pregnant and we're not married. This is a huge problem for my empire because we are so traditional. One of my father's advisors suggested that I should consider getting rid of the child. But I don't want to give up my baby." I can tell she's struggling with tears.
