THE BILLIONAIRE IS INFATUATED WITH HIS EX-LOVER

Chapter 7: Sara's Heartbreak

Today, Sara left work early because she couldn't focus anymore. Leon tried to say hurtful things to make her falter. Leon knew well that Sara had always been stubborn, rebellious, living in luxury, and never endured criticism or scorn from anyone, so she was confident she wouldn't allow herself to be belittled further.

As soon as she got into the car, Jessica noticed Sara wasn't in a good mood, so she hesitated momentarily before speaking up.

"What's wrong? Who made you angry? You look like a young green durian, all prickly on the outside but tender on the inside. Tell me, and I'll help you vent all this frustration," Jessica comforted while holding the steering wheel, looking at Sara.

"Is he even worth my anger? Do you think he's so noble? Just because he's the boss doesn't mean he can treat people however he wants. But I'm also a respectable young lady. I wouldn't have gone there even once without my promise to my father to secure this project. I wouldn't even bother passing by that street," Sara turned her head to look out the car window, the golden afternoon sun casting its warm glow over the trees lining the road, people bustling to return home, hurried and busy.

"Isn't your handsome boss there? Doesn't Leon show you any respect?"

"He doesn't have an ounce of politeness, and he's even quite outrageous. I wish I could throw him out of the building right now."

Jessica slammed on the brakes, causing Sara to lurch forward, her startled shouting in panic.

"What's wrong with you? You need to pay attention while driving," Sara scolded.

The horn from the car behind them honked incessantly as Jessica hastily stepped on the gas to keep the traffic flowing, but she didn't forget the conversation they were having.

"Leon used to be very kind, caring, and considerate. In the past, he..."

"Only when you stay up all night do you know how long the night is and how long you can live to understand someone's heart."

"Is that so," Jessica sneaked a glance at Sara, realizing she had misspoken.

Ten o'clock at night...

The Luxury nightclub was located on one of the most expensive streets in the city, and just hearing its name was enough to understand its clientele who is how. Since returning to the country, Henry introduced Jessica and Sara to this place, and they have become regular customers ever since.

Sara usually returned home after midnight every night, but sometimes she didn't. Everything at this club was luxurious and met all their demands, so she and her friends often frequented it.

Upon arrival, Henry warmly welcomed them, especially selecting a VIP table with a beautiful view of the entire space. As the drinks were brought out, Sara immediately raised her glass, the clinking of glasses merging with laughter, conversation, and pulsing music to create a cacophony.

Sara drank one glass after another, and Jessica couldn't stop her. Sara was accustomed to nightlife and had a good alcohol tolerance, but she didn't know why she was getting drunk so quickly tonight.

"Come on, finish your drink."

"Stop, don't drink anymore," Jessica forcefully snatched the glass from Sara's hand. "You're sad, but does he even know? Why bother about someone so indifferent?"

"You're right; forget about him; let's keep drinking," Sara laughed as she poured herself another glass.

"Stop, don't drink. Let's go home," Jessica pulled Sara up, but she refused to budge. Frustrated, Jessica called Henry over for help.

As soon as he touched her shoulder, Sara pushed him out. She was determined to drink until morning because she wasn't drunk yet. With no other option, Jessica sat beside her and listened as she poured out her heart. "Four years ago, my father said Leon had taken five billion from him and left, but I didn't believe it. I searched everywhere because I believed he truly loved me. But meeting him again and hearing what he said today made me realize how foolish I was to be deceived by his sweet words."

In her drunken state, Sara's voice was slurred but still audible.

"I have believed our love was beautiful and pure, even though everyone said we were from different worlds and didn't belong together. Every day, Leon would care for me, from meals to bedtime, protecting me and worrying when I got hurt, even if it was just a small scratch. He used to scold me when I skipped class, but it was out of concern. In those moments, I found him adorable," Sara reminisced, her voice tinged with nostalgia.

Jessica sat beside her, listening attentively, occasionally tucking a few loose strands of hair behind Sara's ear, revealing her beautiful face.

"I'm the daughter of a wealthy family, and he's my bodyguard; it's like a romance novel. Despite his poverty, he always tried to buy me things I liked. At first, my father didn't know about us, and when he found out, he opposed it in every way possible, but I never felt as hurt as I do now," Sara continued, her pain evident.

"That's because you didn't know. Romantic novels often entail a lot of suffering because the authors deliberately make it so," Jessica consoled, unintentionally rubbing salt into Sara's wounds.

"You're right," Sara chuckled softly amidst her sorrow.

"The first time we met, my father introduced him and said, 'From now on, he's your bodyguard.' He wore a suit and a white shirt, very polite and neat. My first impression of him was great; he was gentle, so I often teased him to test his patience. Once, I pretended to have stomach pain, asked Leon to buy medicine, and sneaked out. That time, Leon got scolded by my father and almost lost his job," Sara recalled with a hint of mischief.

"Leon's family was impoverished; he lost his parents when he was young and lived with his uncle and aunt. After finishing high school, he worked odd jobs to support his family. It seemed like his uncle's family didn't like him, so he never returned once he could fend for himself. Leon was very lonely and isolated. On his birthday, he was always alone, with no gifts, no well-wishes, and no visits from friends or relatives," Sara shared, her voice filled with empathy for her beloved. "You probably loved him too much, Sara," Jessica sympathized, placing her hand on Sara's back to ease her loneliness. Unlike Sara, Jessica had never officially loved anyone; her romantic experiences were fleeting.

"Once, I unexpectedly found out his birthday when I saw it on his job application form lying on my father's desk. I prepared a small cake for him, which surprised and delighted him immensely. We hid in the warehouse, blew out the candles, and celebrated his birthday together. And that was also the last time we were happily together," Sara recounted, her voice tinged with nostalgia.

"Why was that?"

"My father found out that time and our secret relationship had nowhere to hide," Sara confessed. In her drunken state, Sara reverted to her true self, no longer sharp-tongued or proud but intimate and sincere.

Suddenly choked with emotion, tears streamed down Sara's cheeks, staining her rosy cheeks. Her wounded heart wailed, becoming unusually fragile.

Silent beside her, Jessica believed it was not the time for advice; Sara only needed someone to listen to her heartache. Typically strong, she became melancholy whenever her past love was mentioned, perhaps because Leon was the one who weighed heaviest on her heart.

After a torrent of tears, Sara stood up, grasping Jessica's soft hand. Her gaze was intense, and she wiped away her tears; her demeanor completely changed.

"I think I may have blamed my father unfairly. Leon isn't as good as I thought. Judging by his current status, my father probably spent a lot of money on him. Initially, I came because of the project, but after meeting him, I wanted to know why he left in the past and if what my father said was true. Now that everything is clear, I no longer need to go there," Sara declared.

Jessica sighed, wondering if these words would lead Sara to regret it later.
