Chapter The Plan
"Yes please make sure that everything goes according to plan and smoothly tomorrow night. Don't forget to keep me updated on everything. Okay bye." Bryce disconnected the call as soon as he came out of Hera's ward. He had accompanied her and Mariam to the hospital for her checkup and while they were at it, he had excused himself to take a call in regards to Hera's birthday surprise. So far, he was utterly and totally stressed but it was worth it.
With a smile on his face, he dipped his hands into his pockets to reveal the small box. For some reason, he has been carrying it everywhere not wanting to put it down even for a second. He opened the box and stared at the beautiful engagement ring resting there. He carressed the ring with his finger as he imagined how beautiful it would look on Hera's hands before putting it back into his pocket.
He was trying his very possible best to have everything under control before tomorrow evening so that he would be fully prepared to celebrate Hera's birthday. She's in for a ton of surprise and she doesn't even know it yet.
"Someone looks happy." Mariam teased Bryce and he turned around to see her standing next to him. It felt like she was reading his mind and could always tell what he was thinking. She's like a second skin but one company that he always enjoys. These weeks, aside from him, she had been in charge of Hera and was always there at her beck and call. She was like the mother he never had.
Her presence was one that he couldn't do without. She always makes him imagine what it would feel like to have a mother. Right from day one, she had always been there. Mariam was one of the few people on earth that he could trust and she has proven that to him already.
"I'm always happy Mariam." He answered happily.
"Not as much as you've been these past few weeks. You look and feel like a new man. It's surreal seeing you like this."
"Well ever since Nella has been out of my picture and i cleared my relationship with Hera, I feel more alive. It's almost like I can do anything now."
"You're lucky Sir. Anyways, I'm happy that you're happy. It warms my heart."
He sighed deeply. "Where is Hera?"
"The doctors are checking up on her so i decided to give her a little space. Poor woman, i feel like these past few weeks, we've been doting on her too much." She complained wearily. "It's only a matter of time before she scolds us to leave her alone."
He chuckled. He understood her predicament. He was also in the same shoes. "Let's skip to the part where I ask why you keep on following me Mariam? It's like i can never hide anything from you these days."
She looked sideways before whispering to him. "Tomorrow is Hera's birthday and I know that you're planning a surprise so I want to be included."
Bryce was shocked at the lady's intuition. "What gives you the idea that I'm planning a surprise?"
"The Ring." She answered almost immediately. "I saw it before you put it back into your pocket. It's indeed very beautiful Sir and I'm sure that Hera will think the same too." Bryce smiled at her words. "Thank you. I just hope that she loves it." He brought it out again for the second time to show it to her. He was excited and could barely contain his excitement. He felt like he would burst with happiness any minute. "Who wouldn't love it. You put in a lot of efforts and knowing Hera, she'll be extremely happy that you went all out to do this for her. She's always appreciative of your efforts, whether small or big." "Thank you Mariam. Hearing you say that just lifted my spirits. I feel less tensed and nervous about it now." He put the box back into it's confinement before facing her again. Everything was finally set now. This is part of what he had signed up for the rest of his life. It was thrilling and exhilarating at the same time. Just the thought of it warmed up his insides. His face lights up like a Christmas tree at the thought of it. "It's very obvious. I've been watching and observing you all week so I know. You're not exactly a difficult book to read sir. You have a ring and tomorrow is Hera's birthday."
He chuckled. "And who said that you weren't Mariam?" He asked shocking her.
"Well, tomorrow is a special day so you're coming, Everyone is. You're like a mother to the both of us and if there's anyone in the world that i would want to be by my side tomorrow Mariam, it's definitely you. He told her, lips stretched out into a contented smile as he reached out for her hands to hold
them.
"Thank you for not giving up on me Mariam." He started. "Thank you for always being there and seeing the good in me even when nobody did."
"Only you might've had a clue of how
i struggled and how it messed me
up. Only you understood and despite all my shortcomings, you still didn't leave. You never judged me and stood by my side." He went on. His little confession got to the older woman and she began to tear up.
"Somehow, if it weren't for you, i would never have had a chance with Hera. You were the foundation of our relationship and i always want you to be by my side. I know I'm selfish but, i can't imagine life without you. You're like my mother." "Oh Bryce." She squeezed his hands lovingly. "Thabk you for giving me this opportunity as well. You are like my son too and I'm glad to be a part of your story."
"I knew that you have always been
good but you just didn't realize it yet.
I'm glad that you have. I'm glad that you have finally let go of the past and given yourself a chance at happiness and I'm glad that you' and Hera will start a new journey together. I'll go and check-up on her now." She said before walking away. Tomorrow night is
going to be amazingly perfect and he just knows it!
