Chapter 38
"At least I had a wonderful night with him, not as someone so unattractive and even disgusting that even the person he likes finds him repulsive," Allison commented with a slight sarcastic smile.
“You could have at least let us know your wedding date.
After all, it’s such an unlucky day, hardly ideal for venturing out,” he continued, his voice dripping with disdain.
Melany was furious, and even Colton was shocked by Allison's behavior.
"Wow, Allison! You've outdone yourself these past three years!" he shouted.
Kellan, who had been absentmindedly playing with a cat, looked contemplative at Allison's words.
He frowned, remembering the woman from that night who had treated him like nothing more than a gigolo.
Melany, struggling to contain her anger, forced a smile so tight her nails nearly drew blood.
“I didn’t know you had so little regard for propriety.
But to speak of such matters so openly is unseemly.
Those who don’t know you well might think you’re the kind of woman who flits from one man to another.
If you ever wish to find a good man…”
Melany watched Kellan’s face closely, noticing a shadow of contemplation.
“Those fussy elites still disdain such behavior, so Allison, you might want to tone down your freedom a bit to avoid offending them.
”
“You mean those stubborn old men?” Allison replied with a hint of defiance before Kellan burst out laughing.
"A woman's virtue is not measured by her so-called chastity.
What really matters is her character.
For example, people like you, who are always causing trouble for others, should have their tongues cut out so that they can learn a lesson," he said coldly.
Allison was surprised by Kellan's abruptness.
She hadn't anticipated such a harsh reaction, even though his principles seemed unwavering.
Kellan glanced at Colton with nonchalant indifference.
“What do you think, Mr.
Stevens?”
Kellan's use of the title "Mr.
Stevens" carried the same cutting sarcasm as Allison's earlier comments.
Both Colton and Melany took it as a blatant threat, and were too intimidated to respond.
As they walked out, seething with silent fury, a cold breeze swept across the backs of their necks.
Melany's eyes snapped open as she saw a knife embedded deep in the door.
It was stuck in the wood, just inches from her head.
Colton felt a sudden chill on his face and touched it to find fresh blood.
“You’re bleeding!” Melany shrieked, noticing her hair blowing in the breeze.
In stunned disbelief, she realized that her long hair had been shaved.
“Ah!” Melany’s screams pierced the air.
Clang! Allison dropped her tools on the floor.
Melany, weak and shaking, recoiled in terror as Allison approached her.
“Can’t we fix this? This is deliberate damage!” Melany protested.
Allison, her expression impassive, casually removed the folder from the door.
“I’m sorry, the incessant barking outside was getting on my nerves, so I threw it away to scare the dogs,” she said, waving the knife in front of them without a trace of apology.
"If you use any more foul language next time, I'll aim directly at your heads.
"
“You’re crazy!” Colton fumed, his face flushed with rage.
“You’re a crazy person!”
Before he could finish, Allison slammed the door shut, barely missing his nose.
He closed the door and wiped his hands as if he had touched something unspeakably dirty.
"Finally, some peace," he murmured with a sigh of satisfaction.
