Chapter 1404
"I won't do it!"
"Neither will I!" Adler and Jenna burst out in unison.
They'd helped Sophie and Colby twice before and knew all too well the feeling of being overwhelmed by work. As the saying goes, three's a crowd, and if they had to dive in again, they might as well say goodbye to life as they knew it! Just then, Odie stepped up coolly, "Let's all pitch in. It's not that much anyway."
"Not that much? Are you kidding me?" Adler was stunned.
Who in their right mind would think there's too little work? With all these files scattered around, they'd be at it till kingdom come!
Odie rolled up his sleeves and nodded to Jonah, "You take that side, I'll handle this one."
"Yes, boss."
Adler was floored: "Wait, Mr. Odie, are you serious?"
"Well... I'll just tackle this section," Harold said, casually pointing to an area.
Sophie barely had time to appreciate the gesture when Odie added, "Time's money, folks. I'm charging by the minute. Any objections?" Sophie forced a smile.
Harold chimed in, "I'll do it for free, but I want a ten-year deal between the Aldridge family and S Corporation."
Seeing these two making outrageous demands, Adler and Jenna seemed to have found a goldmine and jumped in too.
Adler declared, "Five million! I want five million!"
Jenna, excitedly, "I want the latest limited edition designer handbags, the whole collection..."
"Stop right there!" Sophie cut in with. a smile, "We're good on help now if you're bored, why not go on a date? The eshopping district next door is perfect for that."
With a polite nudge, Sophie had Tricia usher Adler and Jenna out. As Sophie reached for her phone to call Colby, Qdie interrupted, "Don't bother Things at the Costello family are just as crazy. If you call him, Colby's just gonna bring his files over, adding to the mess.
Realizing he was right, Sophie put her phone down. She slumped onto the sofa, picking up the files on the table, which suddenly seemed to weigh a ton. With all this work, not even royalty could handle it.
'Knock knock'
A gentle knock at the door broke the tension. Julian, Reece, and Booker stepped in, stopping in their tracks at the sight.
Julian blinked, "What's going on here?"
"Reece!" Sophie sprang up, surprised. "When did you get back?"
She'd sent Reece off to work internationally, and he'd been abroad for months, learning and growing. She hadn't wanted to interrupt his progress.
Reece glanced at Sophie's bandaged
shoulder and replied, "If I hadn't come back, how would I have known Devonport's in such chaos? Julian gave me the heads-up, or I'd still be in the dark."
Sophie, slightly embarrassed, said, "I didn't want to pull you away from your work."
Odie gave Reece a once-over, his brows knitting together.
