Chapter 0092
Cara's POV
"Excellent work!"
"Yes, great job as usual!"
"We knew we could count on you!"
I'm in a pack business meeting with my brothers Eamon and Colin, as well as some of the other Pack BloodyMoon nobles and leadership.
Eamon just announced that a deal I'd been hard at work to negotiate had finally been made official, and the nobles are offering me very kind praise for my efforts.
"I think I speak for all of us nobles when I say that I now understand why Eamon promoted you to Beta of the pack, Cara... or should I say... Aylon," one of the nobles says, winking at me when he says the name 'Aylon' with a smirk
I'm the one who's been very impressed with how successful the Pack Bloody Moon council has been at keeping my true identity a secret outside of our pack. Not only that, but the pack leadership seems to work extremely well together.
Differing opinions are often encouraged and shared freely here in this pack, and there's no fear of reproach or ridicule when someone offers a unique suggestion. I credit Eamon with fostering such a supportive and collaborative atmosphere within his council. He has truly made Pack BloodyMoon the successful pack it is today.
I'm humbled just to be a part of it all.
"Thank
you, you are all very kind. But I'm just happy to serve the pack. It's an honor to be given the opportunity to help BloodyMoon on its way to prosperity," I tell them with a genuine smile.
"That's exactly the right attitude! We are so lucky to have you," another of the nobles replies.
"I couldn't agree more," my brother Eamon says with his own proud smile. "We are a better pack thanks to your efforts."
I'm overwhelmed by the positive feedback, and I can feel myself blushing. Hard work comes naturally to me, and I don't do it for the compliments or for the glory. But still, it does feel good to be praised for my work.
The pack Gamma, a blonde-haired gentleman named Sven, clears his throat, drawing. attention. "There is one more matter we need to discuss here today....
We all turn to him. "What is it?" my brother Colin asks curiously. Colin pulls out his

notebook, eager to solve whatever problem might be headed our way.
Sven strokes his blonde beard, "It's Pack DarkWood. There's been some... complications.... with the diplomatic collaboration we recently opened..." "Complications?" I ask him. I hadn't heard about any complications.
"Unfortunately, yes. Complications. There's a noble family within Pack DarkWood that has been... less than cooperative," Sven says ominously. "Which means what?" Colin asks. "Just tell us in plain terms, Sven."
"There is
this family..." he checks his front of him, "Let me see... there it is, yes, they are called the Bedfords... apparently this family is not in favor of Pack Bloody Moon's 'alliance with Pack DarkWood." The Bedfords?
Wait...
I recall that's the same family that got the Pack DarkWood council to vote to reduce funding to their Pack House. The Bedfords have been causing lots of trouble for that House manager, based on what she told me.
What could motivate this family to be stirring up so much trouble? And what do they want? Surely they wouldn't be so set on making these political maneuvers unless they had some sort of a plan...
But a plan to do what exactly?
"I've heard of them," I say to the group. Everyone turns to look at me.
"From your time in DarkWood?" Eamon asks. Did you know them?"
"I didn't know them well, but I have encountered them, yes. But more recently, they've been working to reduce funding to the DarkWood Pack House," I inform them.
"Defunding the orphanage?!" Colin asks incredulously. "Who would do such a thing?!"
"Every pack struggles with corruption eventually," Eamon says. "Our own father had to expel more than a few disloyal nobles from this very pack in his day... and so it looks like Alpha King Alaric may have his own troubles ahead..." Our father had to expel nobles? From what I've heard about him, my father was a ruthless leader. I'm once again glad I've never had to sit on his council.
On the other hand, our pack is doing very well these days. Maybe my father did the right thing. If expelling those nobles resulted in the improvement of Pack BloodyMoon into the great place it is today, then maybe it was worth it.... If I've learned anything from observing Alpha Kings at work, it's that good leadership

often requires making the most difficult choices.
"That may be true, but this family seems to want to make an enemy of Pack BloodyMoon as far as I can tell," Sven replies.
"I wouldn't give them so much credit, Sven. Let Alaric handle his own pack. There's no need for us to get involved in whatever mess the Bedfords are trying to create," Eamon says confidently,
"But sir, if they keep acting-" Sven starts.
"We will not meddle in the internal politics of other packs, Gamma," Eamon says with authority. "We will ignore them for now, and allow the Alpha King to address it himself."
'Eamon casts a stern eye towards Sven and the Gamma bows his head towards his Alpha King, "Yes, sir," the Gamma says finally.
I'm still thinking of the Bedfords, wondering what they may be up to when I return home to the cottage. Eamon is probably right, we should not involve ourselves in troubles that are not our own to solve. But I did already involve myself in the Pack House situation...
The best I can do at this point is to wait and see how things progress. Goddess knows I have enough problems of my own without borrowing anyone else's....
When I walk through the front door, I'm surprised to see my best friend Ruby alone on the couch. There's no sign of the children, and the distinctive noise of small children is missing.
"Mia and Ethan are at Ryan's house," Ruby says when she sees me looking around for my
kids.
I nod at her, raising my eyebrow in her direction. Her posture seems unusually stiff, like she's filled with tension. She must have been waiting for me.
I feel a pit in my stomach, fearing something awful has happened. "What is it?"
"Nothing terrible," Ruby replies quickly.
I exhale, releasing the breath I'd been holding. "Okay... but what?"
"Well, to start, I have good news," she says with a smile. "Ethan has been offered a spot in an upcoming science competition!"
"Oh, that's wonderful!" I say excitedly. Ethan is so advanced, and I've noticed ever since he was very young that math and science seem to come naturally to him.
"Yes, he's very excited..." Ruby trails off, not looking at me. She chews on her lip, and I feel a sense of dread all over again.
"But...?" I continue for her, waiting for whatever news she seems to be reluctant to share with me.
"I'm leaving Pack Bloody Moon. And soon." Ruby says quickly. So quickly, in fact, that I almost can't comprehend her words. Chapter 0093
