Chapter 278 Why Don't You Convince Alaric to Fire Me?
"Uncle Cormac, you're finally back! Where have you been all this time? I missed you!" Harry looked up at Cormac and said. 'Missed me?' Cormac thought.
The last time he spoke so harshly to Harry and left him at his doorstep. Cormac was surprised that Harry still recognized him as his uncle and missed him.
'Is this what children are like? They don't hold grudges and don't understand the complexities of adult conflicts and resentments,' Cormac pondered.
"Caspian." Harry's enthusiasm left Cormac unsure of how to respond, so he mumbled his name.
"Uncle Cormac, I'm not Caspian, I'm Harry," Harry corrected.
"Harry?" Cormac was stunned. He looked at Caspian behind him. Indeed, the two kids looked identical, but he had never met Harry before. 'How does Harry know me?' he thought.
"Uncle Cormac, I have a secret to tell you." Harry pulled Cormac down and whispered in his ear about how he and Caspian had swapped identities. Cormac found it unbelievable. Such a thing could happen? "Uncle Cormac, you've watched Caspian grow up. He's always been aloof and never called you uncle or chatted with you. The one who went out for midnight snacks with you was me!" Harry boasted. Caspian gave Harry a cold glare and then politely greeted Cormac, "Hello, Uncle Cormac."
Huh?
Not only was Cormac surprised by Caspian calling him uncle, but Harry and Elisa were also shocked, especially Harry. 'Is Caspian doing this on purpose to spite me?' Harry wondered.
"Uncle Cormac, I was rude before. I'm sorry," Caspian apologized sincerely.
This shocked Cormac greatly. Caspian had always refused to acknowledge him, and now he was sure he wasn't Caspian's uncle.
"Caspian, since you're supposed to be aloof, please keep it up," Harry grumbled. "I'm close to Uncle Cormac, and now you want to acknowledge him too?"
"I can acknowledge whoever I want. It's none of your business! You're the one who's being disrespectful!" Caspian retorted angrily. "I've known Uncle Cormac since I was little. You're the one who came along later." "What does it matter if I came later? Is the depth of feelings determined by how long you've known someone?" Harry argued.
"That's true. You've known Elisa since you were little, but she likes me more," Caspian said.
What?
"Elisa, you have to give me an answer today. Between Caspian and me, who do you like more?" Harry asked.
"Caspian!" Elisa answered without hesitation. "Mainly because you're too stingy, and so am I. So, we don't get along. Caspian is generous and spoils me.Naturally, I like Caspian more."
Harry could only roll his eyes at Elisa. Elisa, who had been silent, slowly walked up to Cormac and introduced herself, "Hello, Uncle Cormac. I'm Elisa."
This was Cormac's first time meeting Elisa. She was such a cute and adorable girl that it was hard for his heart not to melt. He smiled and replied, "Hello, Elisa."
"So, you're my uncle now too. I have another relative. I'm so happy!" Elisa's eyes turned into crescent moons as she smiled.
Cormac wanted to be as cold-hearted as before and say, "I'm not your uncle, and we have no relation," but facing these three innocent and kind children, he couldn't bring himself to say it. At this moment, Stellan, who had been outside, walked in and called out, "Cormac."
Seeing Stellan again, Cormac instinctively lowered his head and said, "I should call you Mrs. Knight now."
"Cormac, you can call me whatever you like," Stellan said.
Cormac fell silent, not knowing what to say. At this moment, Alaric walked over, naturally putting his arm around Stellan, and said, "Cormac, why don't you call Aurora and join us for dinner?" "No need. She has a lot of homework, and she doesn't like eating out," Cormac replied.
"Alright." Alaric knew that for someone who had lost everything, seeing their happy family wouldn't be pleasant. He quickly said, "Cormac, since you have Aurora at home, you should head back early. We'll be going now." "Okay," Cormac replied.
"Goodbye, Uncle Cormac." Harry waved first.
"Uncle Cormac, I heard from Mom that there's a little girl at your home. Bring her next time so we can play with her," Elisa said.
"Okay," Cormac could only respond.
After saying goodbye, the family of five left. Seeing such a family atmosphere, Cormac was genuinely envious.
At this moment, he felt like a mess. Cormac didn't know what he had done wrong. It seemed like everything he had done was wrong. From the moment he was born into the Nash family as Griffon's son, it seemed his life was destined to be a
mess.
If Aurora were home, Cormac would have gone back immediately, but she wasn't. What was the point of going back?
Cormac sat dazed at his desk for a while. Then his gaze shifted to Alaric's office. The USB drive Ambrose wanted him to steal was in there, right?
Was he really going to do this? Stealing trade secrets was illegal, and Ambrose had left no trace of his involvement. Cormac couldn't find any evidence to threaten him.
A loud door opening interrupted his thoughts. He looked up to see Marigold.
Although Marigold wasn't at the company, she was well-informed about its affairs. Hearing from Joe that Cormac had joined Nexus Innovations and that Alaric had given him a high-level position, she couldn't stay calm.
"What is Alaric thinking? Having Stellan around isn't enough; he had to bring Cormac in too? Cormac is just a doctor. What does he know about managing a company? This is driving me crazy. Alaric must be out of his mind," Marigold said in the hall.
Without thinking, Marigold came straight over. Seeing her, Cormac stood up and politely greeted, "Hello, Mrs. Knight."
"Cormac," Marigold said with a smile, "I heard you joined Nexus Innovations and thought I must have heard wrong, so I came to see for myself."
As soon as Marigold spoke, Cormac knew what she was going to say.
"You didn't hear wrong," Cormac said calmly.
"Cormac, I know life has been hard for you since your family went bankrupt. I told you on the phone last time, if you have any difficulties, come to me, not Alaric," Marigold said.
"Mrs. Knight, you probably think I'm a jinx, right?" Cormac knew how superstitious Marigold was.
Marigold continued, "I didn't say that. I just think you're an outsider. How can you handle a high-level position in the company? Alaric is being foolish, but you shouldn't be."
"If you think he's being foolish, why don't you go talk to Alaric?" Cormac retorted bluntly. "Alaric invited me to Nexus Innovations. If you can convince him to fire me, I'll leave immediately!" "I don't mean it," Marigold uttered.
"It's quitting time. Excuse me, Mrs. Knight, I have to go" Cormac opened the door and waited for Marigold to leave. Once she did, he locked the door and walked quickly to the elevator. Marigold was furious. "He's so rude. He's working for the Knight family and dares to treat me like this?"
