Chapter 250
"So, this little one of mine isn't so precious anymore? What's the point of bringing them into the world if I can't use this to get into the Bennett family?" Margot spat, her voice dripping with bitterness. "Useless thing! I've gone through so much carrying you, and you can't
even help me win Everett over. What good are you?"
Her hand clenched into a fist, poised to strike her own belly.
Wendy, pale and panicked, rushed to intercept her, grabbing Margot's hand just in time. "For crying out loud, you can't take your anger out on the baby!"
This child wasn't just Margot's ace in the hole; it was also her shield. Everett had only agreed to let her be if she took good care of Margot until the baby was born safely. If anything happened to the baby now, Wendy knew her neck was on the line too. The thought made her shudder; she didn't want to meet the same fate as Jimmy.
Seeing Margot still struggling, Wendy quickly shifted to damage control. "Margot, don't lose your cool. Didn't you mention that Mr. Everett isn't exactly keen on having kids? Otherwise, Selena wouldn't have been childless for three years."
"And now that she's expecting, if Mr. Everett was happy about it, wouldn't he have her checked at the best hospital instead of having her sneak off to some clinic in the sticks for a check-up? Doesn't that strike you as odd?" Margot paused, her frenzied demeanor cooling as her eyes narrowed. "Keep talking."
Wendy continued, "If I'm right, Selena probably got pregnant by accident and is scared to let Mr. Everett find out, worried he might not want the baby. She might be trying to keep it under wraps, but it's only a matter of time before he learns about it, and we can't be sure how he'll react!"
"So, before that happens, we need to find a way... to make sure her baby isn't a factor, and then the little one you're carrying will still be the golden ticket, the sole future heir of Bennett Corporation!"
Margot, now composed, lay back on the hospital bed, gently caressing her slightly rounded belly. Her expression was turning darker by the moment.
...
After dinner, Selena made an excuse about still feeling unwell and retreated to her room. She needed space, away from Everett, to figure out her next move.
But as she lay there, tossing and turning, her mind felt like a jumbled mess of yarn. The more she tried to unravel her thoughts, the more tangled they became.
Feeling a headache coming on from
all the overthinking, she sat up, propped a pillow behind her, and
started browsing short videos on her phone, hoping for a little distraction.
Thanks to the magic of algorithms, her feed was full of adorable kids tonight. Little bundles of cuteness kept popping up, making her smile despite herself.
One kid, in particular, nicknamed
"Little Spud," was a real charmer He was so tiny, yet so skilled at pulling off the cutest expressions and flirty eyes he had her completely enchanted.
She couldn't help but imagine her own child, with a blend of her and Everett's genes. It would undoubtedly be a real looker!
When Everett finally wrapped up his work and headed to the bedroom, he found her like this.
There she was, a vision of beauty leaning against the headboard, her eyes shining as she watched something on her phone. Hepface lit up with smiles, exuding...
Motherhood.
A shadow of uncertainty flickered across Everett's eyes as he walked over to her.
