Hired Love

Chapter 12

Dinner was a success. The family seemed to warm up to Roman and there wasn't any doubt as to whether m they were in love. Her mother smiled from cheek to cheek and the joy in her heart was apparent on her face. Stacy couldn't help but be happy too.

Aunt Phoebe's baby began to cry after a while, and she'd rushed upstairs to feed the child accompanied by her husband. Soon after, the living room was empty except for her and Roman. Her mother had gone up to rest after a long day of making arrangements. Aunt Emma complained about her tired feet and had George carry her up, much to his displeasure. Benjamin had carried a sleeping Olivia in his arms to bed and Benedict mentioned something about needing to check in on the office.

Tired, Roman fell on the bed face-first the minute they got to their room, not bothering to undress. He yawned sleepily, shutting his eyes. Stacy was perplexed. Where would she sleep? Especially after what had transpired between them earlier, she didn't think it was wise to lay on the same bed as he.

She didn't know how long she stood there thinking before Roman put her out of her misery.

"Come on now," He said with his eyes still closed. "I won't bite. Not unless you ask me to."

If he thought that was supposed to dissipate her growing concern, he was terribly wrong. He did bite and she wasn't entirely sure she wouldn't ask him to. "Thanks, but I'll pass."

Opening his eyes, he pushed himself up on one elbow, smirking. "So what do you plan to do? Sleep on the floor?"

She shrugged, moving to the window.

Roman stalked her with his eyes. "What are you so scared of, Stacy?" He asked her quietly.

She didn't answer, only stared back. What was she so scared of? Good question. How was it that someone she'd only met just a few hours ago had the power to make her feel so... she didn't know how to describe it. Her body called out to him. Her clit pulsed every time he was close. She wanted him to kiss her so hard she only knew his taste. What was she so scared of, he asked?

He shrugged a shoulder at her silence. "You can do whatever you want. It's your room anyway." He returned to his sleeping position, closing his eyes.

Stacy walked to the bed and grabbed a pillow. She flung it on the carpeted floor, suddenly annoyed. He'd given her what she wanted so why was she pissed? She was going to be honest, sleeping on the floor didn't appeal to her. If he had any inkling of decency, he'd switched places with her. Turned out Chivalry was dead and long gone.

She closed her eyes, waiting for sleep to take her. A week. A week of this nonsense and she could finally go back to her boring life. A week of this and Roman could go fuck himself.

Suddenly strong hands were lifting her up, one under her knees and the other at the back of her neck. Stacy shrieked, snapping her eyes open. A second later she was on the bed and Roman was next to her on his stomach, really close, closer than was necessary. His eyes were shut and if she hadn't been sure there were only two of them in the room, she'd have thought someone else had lifted her judging how still he was.

A smile stretched her lips and a warm feeling spread through her. His eyelid fluttered, the only evidence that he was awake. His eyelashes were thick and long, and Stacy blushed red when the thought of something else that was thick and long filled her mind. She'd felt it earlier when they'd been kissing, had even touch it lightly. It felt thick, harder than she thought was possible. She wanted to see it up front, wanted to caress the skin in her hands.

Stacy whined on the inside, pressing three fingers to her forehead. Here she was again fantasizing about the man she was supposed to be running from. This was exactly why she hadn't wanted to be near him. He filled her senses. The last time she'd been on this bed with him, she'd embarrassed herself by climaxing all over his knee.

"Thank you," She mumbled lowly. His eyes came open and they made eye contact. Really, they were a beautiful shade of green. They reminded Stacy of emeralds under the sun, shining through the light.

He smiled. "You really didn't want to sleep on the floor, did you?"

She shook her head, unable to tear her gaze away from his.

"You're a very stubborn woman, Stacy." His deep throaty voice vibrated through her being, coming to rest at the place between her legs.

What was it about him that fascinated her so?

"Earlier at dinner, you weren't lying." She started.

He raised his head higher, so they were eye to eye. "About what?"

"You being a painter."

"I didn't see the need to. It's not like it's a secret or anything. Though your aunt recognizing me was something I didn't see coming."

She chuckled, relaxing. "Aunt Phoebe is one of a kind, I'll tell you that."

He laughed too. "I noticed."

"Is that why you didn't want payment?" She asked him, turning on her side to face him completely. She was glad he hadn't left her on the floor.

"Baby, this isn't a job. Grace needed a favor, and I was happy to oblige. If you want me to take you money though, I will if it'll put your mind at ease. I'm sure someone out there needs it more than I do."
