Caught In His Embrace: A Second Chance Romance

Chapter 138

Chapter 138

At the Flynn residence, Yvette’s feelings of unease over the past few days were finally confirmed. She clutched the hairpin in her hand–a pair of tortoiseshell clips she had just found under Howard’s pillow.

“These aren’t mine. So whose are they? First, there were pictures of a girl, and now a hairpin.‘ Yvette’s eyes were red, tears filling them as she finally lost control of her emotions. “Whose are these, Howard?”

Howard lowered his gaze, refusing to respond. Although he couldn’t speak much right now, it was clear he was avoiding any interaction.

Yvette let out a bitter laugh, on the verge of a breakdown.

“Oh right, I forgot that you can’t talk yet. Fine, I’ll ask questions and you just nod or shake your head, okay?” Her tone shifted as she continued, “Tell me, do you have feelings for another woman?”

Howard stayed the same, eyes downcast, not looking at her or responding.

Yvette was completely enraged. She suddenly reached out, cupping Howard’s face, forcing him to look at her. “Answer me. Yes or no? Is it that hard?”

Howard’s eyebrows furrowed deeply, his lips pressed tightly together, with a look in his eyes she couldn’t quite read.

At that moment, Yvette was almost convinced he had someone else. ‘But when did this happen? He’s been in a coma for so many years, and it couldn’t have been then. So, it must have been a few years ago.

Yvette stiffened, her back tensing. She gritted her teeth, eyes blazing with fury. “Have you been fair to me? Huh? When you were with her, did you ever consider me, Howard?”

Howard lowered his gaze, his breathing unintentionally quickening.

“Who is she?” Yvette cried out, grabbing his collar. “I’m asking you. Don’t act like you don’t know. Tell me. If you could send Hervey to find her, how can you not even say her name?”

“Oh no!” Miranda, who had been outside the door, couldn’t hold back any longer. She rushed in, pulling Yvette away. “Yvette, calm down. Howard is still a patient.”

Yvette sobbed, pointing accusingly at Howard. “Don’t you want to ask him what he’s done to me?”

“Alright, alright, I’ll ask right away.” Miranda was visibly stressed as she looked at Howard. “Howard, this is just a misunderstanding, right? If you can’t explain it, maybe ask Hervey to come and clear things up?”

However, Howard finally reacted. He shook his head very slowly yet firmly in the wheelchair as he uttered just one word, “No…”

“Howard, you jerk.” Yvette was overwhelmed. She rushed to the window. “So you’re not going to talk, huh? Sneaking her hair clip and I touching it countless times a day, right? Fine.” She flung her arm up and threw the hair clip right out the window.

“No” Howard’s voice was surprisingly clear. Even more astonishing, he stood up straight from his wheelchair, trying to rush to the window. But obviously, he couldn’t do that right now. With a loud crash, he fell heavily onto the floor.

“Howard, are you alright?” Miranda was so frightened that her face turned pale. She hurried to help him up. Then she looked up at Yvette. “Yvette, can’t you just talk things out? You know he is still sick.”

“Miranda… Yvette sobbed, her eyes brimming with tears.

Maranda sighed helplessly, I understand you. But everything hasn’t been sorted out yet, right?”

Hasn’t been sorted out? Yvette sneered silently. Couldn’t Miranda see how anxious Howard was about that hairpin. To say there’s nothing between ham and the owner of the hairpin is just fooling everyone!

“Caregiver Miranda called out ‘Come in here, quick. Howard has fallen.”

The door swung open, and Josiah came in with the caregiver. “What’s going on?” Josiah asked, taken aback. He then quickly went over. With his ang arms, be slipped his arm under Howard’s and helped him up.

With a hard Howard steadied himself and slowly got into the wheelchair. Once he was settled, he pressed the button and wheeled himself

Howard going?”

“Oh no.” Miranda was anxious and quickly followed Howard. “Let’s catch up with him first.”

The group made their way downstairs to the garden. Miranda had a hunch about what Howard was up to, so she called Linda and the servants to join him in the search. Everyone was there, except Yvette.

“Let’s look for a couple of hairpins. What do they look like? Well, let’s start searching first. After all, they’re just things girls use,” Miranda said.

Josiah was surprised. “Are you saying Howard…”

Miranda sighed and nodded. “I’m not sure about all the details, but…”

“Just look at him. I’m afraid it might be true.” She pointed at Howard, who was focused on finding the hairclip. She never expected that Howard, who never gave her any worries, would end up doing something like two–timing.

Miranda sighed again. “If he had told me earlier he liked someone else, would I have tried to pair him with Sienna? It’s such a pity.”

Josiah was too shocked to find the words. “Two–timing? Howard?

After two whole hours, they only found one.

“Howard.” Miranda’s heart ached for her grandson. “You’re tired. Go back and rest. I’ll have them continue looking for the other one, okay?”

Howard frowned, holding the hairclip in his hand, not willing to agree.

Josiah was worried too and advised, “The hairclip is definitely at the Flynn residence. It’s just a matter of time before we find it. Your health is important. If you don’t rest, Grandma won’t rest either. Just do it for her, alright?”

These words touched Howard. He furrowed his brow, hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Okay.”

“Quick. Take Howard back to his room,” Miranda instructed.

Grandma, let me do it,” Josiah cut in.

After settling Howard in, Josiah came out of his room and bumped into Yvette. “Yvette,” he called.

Yvette crossed her arms and looked directly at him. “Be honest, do you know about that woman?”

The Flynn brothers always shared everything. Before anything happened to Howard, the person he trusted most was Josiah, and Josiah was definitely a brother’s keeper.

Josiah shook his head helplessly. “I really don’t know. He never mentioned it. There must be a misunderstanding. He’s not that kind of person.*

“Hmph. Yvette didn’t believe him at all. “Not telling me, huh? Fine, keep it hidden. Let’s see if you can keep it a secret forever.”
