Chapter 0033
Chapter 0033
Caroline's POV:
Questions swirled in my mind as the nervousness in my veins mounted. What if it was indeed William who had hurt my father? What could I even do in that case? No matter the outcome, I knew I needed answers or I would never rest.
My immediate instinct was to call William as soon as possible, but each call was spitefully ignored. As a CEO, he could have been busy with vital work, but the lack of answers infuriated me. Waiting wasn't an option while my father lay broken in the hospital.
I needed answers, but I was going to have to get them in person. With a fire in my heart, I drove down to the villa we once shared to find him, and I wasn't going to leave until I received an explanation.
I pounded on the door, expecting to see William or at least the housekeeper on the other end. Instead, I was met with the flawless features of Sophia. Since when had she moved in? She had been absent the last few times I was taken to the villa. Did she even know that her boyfriend's ex-wife had been staying in his home?
Held aloft in her other arm was her beautiful baby boy, George, who slept soundly in his mother's hold. A scornful look was firmly etched on Sophia's flawless features. My own expression wasn't too dissimilar, as just the sight of her made me sick. "Why are you here?" she asked, her tone biting.
"I need to see William," I replied, trying to keep my voice level, but that wasn't easy when speaking to my husband's mistress of all people. "I have some things I want to ask him. Where is he?"
"He's working late today. You could have just talked to him over the phone, you know," she pointed out, her free hand on her hip.
"He wasn't answering," I bit back. "Besides, this is an emergency."
After heavy scrutiny, she allowed me into William's home with a tired sigh. "If you have an emergency, you can talk to me," she said, as though she was already Mrs. Anderson and the lady of the household.
I turned my head in contempt, refusing to play into her superiority complex. "I have nothing to say to you. I'll just wait for William."
Sophia scoffed, promptly sitting down on the sofa and turning her attention to little George, who was starting to stir from his restful slumber. "I'm sorry, my baby boy," she cooed. "She must be bothering you. Don't worry, daddy will be home soon. We are an actual family, after all." Her words were obviously meant to provoke me, but they still made me grimace. This woman knew that I had lost my baby around the time she had hers, and yet she still endeavored to

taunt me. These were the words of a heartless woman.
Needing a distraction from Sophia's cruel taunting, I allowed my eyes to explore the luxurious villa I once called home. The room sang with familiarity, and yet it felt like I was in a stranger's home. So many grand changes had been made since I'd last been there. Many were nearly imperceivable, like some of my favorite knickknacks going missing, while others were unmistakable.
To my devastation, the paintings I had made for our home were gone. I had an unwavering passion for art, and William had adored whatever I made. He had told me that he would keep my precious paintings forever, and yet now they had been replaced by whatever tacky artwork Sophia now put up. It was just another one of his many lies. Could I even believe a single word that came from his mouth?
Rage filled me as I took in all the things that had been callously thrown out. So many precious memories had been made, and now they were just treated like they meant nothing at all. What truly made my blood boil, however, was when I looked outside and saw that my garden of tulips was completely ruined. The flowers were crushed and savagely torn apart with the petals strewn everywhere. I couldn't believe it that was where I'd buried my puppy!
do?" I turned to Sophia, frozen in shock, only to see her donning a smug smirk. "What did you I demanded, rage bubbling in my chest. Even though William had divorced me, he'd sworn to save the garden. Now his mistress had desecrated the only remaining memory of my puppy. The malicious smirk that lifted Sophia's lips only grew. "You're not a part of his life anymore," she said simply. "It only makes sense to destroy everything associated with you." My heart was twisted with anger. "This is unforgivable. He promised he wouldn't get rid of the garden."
Sophia's laugh was cold and wicked. "Oh yeah? And what do you think William is going to do about it? Do you think he'll blame me, or will he just hate you more?"
My mouth was clamped shut, for I already knew the answer.
