Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again

Chapter 0014

Chapter 0014

William's POV:

Upon finding out that Caroline had disappeared before the party was over, I was filled with an immense sense of annoyance. Was it really so hard for her to accept being with me?

She's probably flirting with Martin behind my back again, I thought to myself, causing a bolt of anger to flash through my veins.

My hand tightened around my wine glass, growing increasingly unhappy at the thought of them together, probably talking trash about me while I was busy hosting this party. Could she really be so shameless?

"William!" came my mother's voice from afar. I forced myself away from my stewing thoughts to look over at my mother's approaching form. At her side was Martin, who was still missing his suit jacket and was approaching with a look of amused contempt. On one hand, I was relieved to see that Caroline was not with Martin, but on the other, I detested seeing Martin in general.

"Mama," I greeted my mother, trying to ignore the man beside her. "Are you enjoying your party?"

"Oh, it's wonderful," she chirped, before unfortunately gesturing over to Martin with a wide smile. "Look who I bumped into! It's been ages since I've seen him. Still as handsome as ever. Did you know he's working full time as a doctor now? One of the best in the state, too!"

My smile twitched as I listened to my mother continue to praise Martin, just like she had always done when we were younger.

Although I tried to distance myself away from the man as much as possible, the truth was that Martin and I had known each other since we were children.

Martin was a good student with excellent grades, all the while I was the problem child in the eyes of my family. Even if she meant the best, my mother always had a habit of comparing the two of us.

All this had already made him the object of my ire, but the biggest conflict between the two of us happened way back in middle school. I had a crush on a girl in middle school, but I was callously rejected by her.

I'd chalked it up to her being unimpressed by my problematic attitude, but the reason.

turned out to be that she liked Martin.

Our relationship had already been pretty negative already, but this pushed it over to the edge. It resulted in a genuine fight, and any chances of us ever being able to reconcile disappeared into thin air. +25 BONUS

Now Martin was standing next to my mother, giving me a respectable but contemptuous smile, which had my blood boiling in my veins. Even after all these years, he was still so annoying.

For the sake of my mom, however, I kept my mouth shut and nodded along to her constant praises of a man who wasn't even her son. Mercifully, she needed another drink and left the two of us together alone.

As soon as she disappeared behind the corner, my smile vanished and I gave Martin a scathing glare. "You would do well to stay out of my sight," I growled. "Otherwise, I'll make sure you'll pay for it."

Martin's smile twisted into something far more provocative. "I have heard that George is not the son of you and Caroline."

I was shocked by the audacity of his questions. How dare he provoke me like that? Who did he even think he was?

"We are still married," I replied coldly. I took a step closer, making sure to get

uncomfortably close before hissing out, "Caroline is not a woman you can covet. She would never like a man like you.

Despite my biting remarks, Martin smiled nonchalantly. "Who knows?" He raised his glass and winked at me cheekily. "Cheers." With that, he left me standing there.

My hand tightened around the wine glass in my hand, tempted to crush it then and there. You've just successfully challenged what is mine, I thought to myself. No one could touch the things that belonged to me, otherwise I would destroy them.

When the party was over, I decided not to head home. Instead, I stayed in the main building of my company, hoping to get rid of my annoyance with work. On a much more shameful note, I also didn't want to face Caroline.

I didn't think she would be keen on hearing from me, either, so one could imagine my shock when she called me to urge me to divorce her. Did she want to escape from me to be with Martin or any other man? How could she just move on to a new life so easily? With anger coursing through my veins, I deliberately found reasons to delay. I thought that hearing her angry reaction would have been satisfying, but in reality, it wasn't.

Later that day, I stood by the French window in my personal office, lighting a cigaretté in thought. The many scenes of that night flashed through my mind, with one in particular standing out amongst the rest.

I couldn't get out of my head the way Caroline had successfully comforted George. Just recalling that instance had sadness creeping up on the edges of my mind.

Caroline and I should have had our child, but the events of that fateful day were

irreversible. Had the sins of her family against Sophia never transpired, perhaps our relationship wouldn't be as ruined as utterly ruined it was now.
