Bedmates Soulmates

Chapter CHAPTER 115

You Were Spying On Me?

You Were Spying On Me?

Kira, still wallowing in self-reproach, said unthinkingly, 'Of course she will. I graduate from university in a year. Then I'll get a job and I'll-'

She caught herself.

Austyn fastened his eyes on her. "What will you do after you get a job?"

Kira held her tongue.

She'd already said too much and almost gave away her plan.

Taking a page out of Giana's playbook, Kira placed a hand on her stomach. 'I need to use the bathroom. Where's Giana anyway? She must have gotten lost. I should go and find her.' Kira took to her heels.

Austyn stared at her back.

The woman was hiding something.

VIP ward, Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

"What do you mean you're dropping my case?' Kayleigh screamed.

She grabbed a water glass from the bedside table and hurled it at the lawyer.

"Who released the bitches from police lock-up? Have you been sleeping on the job? Why the hell didn't you stop them from getting out? Didn't Austyn ask you to take care of the case?"

When Austyn visited her yesterday, he'd promised her he would make the culprits pay.

What changed?

Adrian Wee touched his forehead.

Blood was oozing out.

He pressed a tissue to the wound. 'Miss Woods, I'm really not sure what's going on. I'm in the dark, same as you. An hour ago, Mr Scott called me up and fired me over the phone. I didn't get the chance to- 'You're useless!' Kayleigh reached for another weapon, but there was nothing left on the table. "Get out!'

The lawyer grimaced in pain,

He had to turn around and leave when he sensed his ex-client was not in a communicative mood.

He pulled open the door and almost bumped into the chest of a tall man standing right outside.

"M...Mr McCarthy?'

Adrian started sweating.

"What are you doing here?' Austyn demanded.

'I was, ah, just, ah, visi-"

"You work for MS Entertainment, which means you work for me,' Austyn said. 'Didn't Kai remove you from Kayleigh's case?"

"Uh, Mr Scott did call me. He, uh, he said-'

You Wire Soving On Me?

'He said you were taken off the case. So what are you doing here?'

The lawyer mopped his forehead.

His glib tongue failed him.

"You seem to have trouble following simple instructions.' Austyn stared down at the man.

"I was just, uh....

"You're the in-house counsel. I take it you're familiar with employment law?"

1 am, I am,' Adrian said hurriedly, eager to please.

Then tell me, is insubordination grounds for dismissal?

"Mr McCarthy, please!' Adrian was quaking in his boots.

If he was fired by the M Group's president, he'd be lucky to get a job in Stamford washing dishes.

"What did you tell her?"

The lawyer swallowed hard. 'Just that I was taken off the case. And that the two women have been released from police custody." "And?

That's all, I swear! Adrian raised his right hand, ready to take an oath.

Austyn swept his eyes over the sweating lawyer, whose heart was pounding. "Stay here."

"Yes, Mr McCarthy!"

Kayleigh's ward had a small sitting room.

Lying in bed, she caught vague voices from the door some distance away.

She tossed the quilt aside, got off the bed and rummaged around in the mini bar.

They didn't stock it with her favourite brand of water, Fillico.

Kayleigh added the name of whoever was in charge of the minibar to her growing list of people she would chew out later.

She hadn't paid $10,000 per day to be treated like a pleb.

Where the hell was Hylda, anyway?

Her agent said she would bring two assistants here to look after her.

Kayleigh checked her phone.

Hylda was late,

Shed added Hylda's name to the list.

The voices outside stopped.

Twenty seconds later, a man strode in.

"Austyn? Kayleigh swayed on her feet.

'What are you doing up? he reached out a hand to steady her.

You kyker Strymg On Met

I was thirsty.' She sat on the edge of the bed.

I'll get it for you." He bent down to check the minibar. 15 mineral water okay?"

"Sure. She took the bottle of San Pellegrino sparkling water. "Can you help me?"

Austyn twisted off the cap for her.

'You look better than yesterday," he said, standing in front of her.

She nodded. "I feel better."

Kayleigh gripped the bottle.

She wanted to ask why he didn't come to see her last night.

She called his assistant and left a message.

Didn't he get it?

Was he busy with work, or was he with someone else?

The actress lowered her eyes.

She would have asked him, but the lawyer's words left an uneasy feeling in her.

Kai never did anything without an order from his boss.

If he fired the lawyer, it must be because Austyn ordered it.

Why?

Austyn studied Kayleigh's face.

A band of white bandages circled her forehead.

Her cheeks were a little flushed.

She wore a trace of pink lipstick.

"The one who threw the brick at you- he said.

Kayleigh looked up.

"-was Kira?

Why was he calling that bitch by her first name?

Kayleigh blinked. "You didn't know?

'Not until last night."

Was that why he didn't come last night?

Kayleigh bit her bottom lip.

The implications of his words made her head swim.

He'd promised to make the culprits pay, but that was before he knew one of them was Kira Hewitt.

Had he changed his mind now that he knew?

"You went to see her behind my back?

was no

posed as a question, but the way Austyn said it made it sound like an accusation.

'It was just that one time,' she said quickly. 'If you don't like it, I'll stop, I promise."

You Wylie Spying On Me?

Austyn crossed his arms and stared down at her. "You know who she is to me, don't you?'

Kayleigh averted her gaze.

Her hands shook.

Few people could withstand Austyn's hard, interrogative gaze.

It was a look he'd learned in the army and practised on the enemy.

"I, uh, I just know that the two of you are close.' Kayleigh gulped. 'You let her live in your villa." "You were spying on me?'
