Chapter 35 –
Bonnie
The freedom that I felt as soon as we hit the forest and Lexi let loose does not last very long, There is so much on my mind, and it's hard to stop thinking or feeling for even just the shortest amount of time. The moon goddess must have it in for me because I can't seem to catch a break. First losing my mom before I even got to know her, could even remember her, and then she let me grow up like I did and now, I have a mate who plays ping pong with my heart, and it feels like I'm about to explored. I keep going from upset to angry and while I want to curl up in a ball and cry until I pass out my anger is overriding it and right now I just want to scream and shout and destroy everything in sight. I've always been fairly quiet, had no choice but to be that way but for some reason right now I feel stronger than I ever have and ready to take down everything that's in my sight.
"We'll run for a while and then find you somewhere to let out all of your anger, it won't do you any good to keep it all inside." Lexi chirps. We've not been running for long and yet she already seems to be so much lighter. This run was the right thing for her. I don't answer her but I know she can feel my excitement at the idea of letting out all of my frustrations as she carries on barreling through the woods.
I'm not sure how long we've been out here nor am I sure how much time we have left but I doubt it will take that long for Nick to know that I left and I'm pretty sure the moment he knows I'm gone he'll be looking for me. He could be gone for a few hours but the doctor goes by my room to check on me quite regularly so I need to make the most of every moment.
My body jerks as the realization sets in. Nick is out running the same woods as me what if I run into him? What if he picks up my scent before I pick up his? "Don't worry, Bon. I'm watching our surroundings. I'll do all I can to avoid him until you are ready to see him again." Lexi pants as she slows down her running a little. This is one of the many reasons why I love that wolf. We both know that if she picks up the scent of our mates or sees them all of her instincts will tell her to run to them and yet here she is putting me first once again, like she always has.
Through all of my erratic thinking, I don't even realize how far we have come until Lexi stops at the top of a cliff that overlooks a waterfall. "Where are we, Lex? Are we still on pack grounds?" She huffs as she steps forward until we can see right over the cliff. "Of course we are, Bon. Were just further back than before. It's so peaceful here." She's right it is and as she flops down onto the ground and relaxes I slowly start to do the same. I take in deep breaths and moan at the scent that surrounds me from the freshness of the forest and the water and let my mind relax so much from the sound of the water as it goes down the waterfall and flows down that lake that I unintentionally fall asleep. What a stupid mistake that was...
"Get up mutt!" I wince then spring awake when I realize I've been kicked in the side. I lower my hand to cover my side... wait my hand? I look down and realize that I'm lying on the ground naked in my human foam. What the hell happened to Lexi and who the fuck just kicked me? I jump up from the ground as fast as I can making sure my back faces the waterfall so that I can keep my eyes on my surroundings but I can't see anyone. "Lex, you there?" Of course, she doesn't answer and I'm scared, really scared but It looks like I'm on my own here so I pull up my imaginary big girl pants and take in a deep breath
"Who's there?" I call out but all I hear is the noise from the wasteful. For a second I begin to wonder if I imagined someone kicking me or maybe I'm even dreaming but then I hear a slight noise almost like footsteps and straighten my spine as I wait in silence. "Did you really think that I would just leave and let you live a life that you don't deserve?" A chill runs down my spine when I hear his voice as fear spikes throughout my entire body but I try to hide my feelings as his face appears through the trees and all I want to do is run. "Why are you here, Rowan?" My voice sounds a lot more confident than I feel and I'm grateful for it because he thrives on making me suffer and I'm done being his toy, done being his victim.
"Watch your tone when you're talking to me, dog!" He slowly starts to walk towards me with an evil grin covering his face but that is not what catches my attention, what catches my attention is the girl who walks out behind him. She is very thin but incredibly beautiful, although she's dressed like she is homeless and it has me confused. "I don't understand?" Why is he here? What does he want?
"Well, you see little sister, I had planned to head home the morning after the ball but just a few hours before I was due to depart I heard a very interesting conversation, one involving Alpha Nicholas and his best friend Tony, a conversation about you being his mate and well, I couldn't just let that happen could I?
Of course not, no. I said I was going home but instead, I hid out in the woods, waited, and watched, and to my utter relief, you decided to run which if we're being honest here, we both know was the right thing to do because let's face it, you are in no way Luna material. You are no way mate material full stop. But Bonnie being Bonnie you couldn't just leave, could you? No, you had to be weak and pathetic and pass out in the woods like some damsel in distress!" The more he talks the louder and angrier he becomes but I remain still and act calm while I will someone, anyone to turn up and help me.
"Why did it matter to you so much? Surely you would be happy if I found my mate and didn't return home?" He laughs a deep belly rumble as he takes another step closer to me. "Oh, I would be more than happy for that to happen but an Alpha as you're mate? Nah, you don't deserve a mate like that, a Rogue maybe but not an Alpha or any decent wolf for that matter!"
"So why did you stick around? What was your plan?" He shrugs but the evil in his eyes tells me all I need to know. He'd kill me before he allowed me to be with an Alpha like he has the right to make that decision. "Wait... do Dad and Blue know that you're still here?" He smirks as he takes another step towards me leaving only a few feet between us now.
"Of course they do," I answer my own question because quite frankly it was a stupid question to ask in the first place. "I told them my plan right at the very beginning and they agreed with me. They both loved the idea of me putting a stop to it. Blue wants Alpha Nicholas and she isn't about to let you take what's hers." I already knew that Blue had an interest in my mate from the night at the ball but to agree to this is just crazy but then again should I be surprised that my sister, my twin would be happy to see me dead so that she can make a move on my Alpha mate? Not at all.
"Who is she?" I point to the girl standing behind him. She hasn't spoken a single word since they arrived nor has she moved an inch and she has me on edge. Of course, Rown ignores my question as if she isn't really here. "Don't you think you should be asking me something else?"
"Like why I've woken up in my human foam? Why is it I can't speak to my wolf? Of course, I want to ask those questions but I doubt that you would tell me so what's the point?" I'm not in the mood for his games.
"You think so little of me, baby sister." That's the second time that he's called me his sister since he got here and it's not only creeping me out but it's making me want to throw up. He never calls me his sister and while there was a time that I hated that fact in recent years I've come to always be grateful for it.
"You see my friend here is part Witch and she has a small issue with your mate so she was more than happy to help me out. She's cast a spell that blocks out your wolf so until she removes the spell you can't shift or talk to your wolf and that's just how I want it." Fuck, this is so much worse than I thought. He knows that I'm not physically strong even more so after recent events and without Lexi's strength I'm basically human, only a weak and useless one.
He takes a few more steps forward closing the last bit of space between us before wrapping his large hand around my throat and gently squeezing. "You have been a burden on this family since the day that you were born, since the day that you killed my mom and I always swore that one day that you would pay, and guess what little sister? Today is that day."
Fuck, fuck, fuck! How the hell am I going to get out of this? Suddenly the girl that arrived with my brother appears at the side of him with a strange look on her face and I'm not sure what she's thinking but either way, I know it's not going to be good for me. "Oh, I think we should make formal introductions now. It would be rude of us to kill her without her knowing who you are, don't you think?" My brother asks the girl casually as if he were asking her what she wanted to eat. She doesn't say a word just gives him a twisted smile and nods her head.
"Lola, this is my little sister, Bonnie. Bonnie this is my friend Lola or you may know her as Lottie's mom."
